Election Day 2012 – Open Thread Today – Live Chat Tonight!

Hola, amigos y amigas,

Had to pop in on this night that to call “momentous” is an understatement.

I have confidence President Obama will be re-elected, but fear some unknown skullduggery.

Jesus’ Blog – 2-1-2012

AdLib, as always a most excellent piece!

In fairness, however, it should be said that Mormons have a rather different version of Jesus — not born of any specially blessed virgin according to Hebraic prophesy, but from ordinary copulation between Mary and the Father God of Earth known as Adam (yes, the original).

What the Mother God of Earth known as Eve (yes, the original) thought of it I have no idea. Perhaps she regarded Mary as a sister wife.

For Mormons, this Jesus died for no one’s sins — you’re on your own on that.

But they do believe one way to have one’s sins absolved is through charity to the poor and. at minimum, Mormons are encouraged to fast twice a month and use the money they would have spent on those meals for charity. They are also strongly encouraged to put time into helping the poor, so it’s not just buying absolution with charitable donations.

Somehow, I doubt Mitt is all that observant.

LIVE BLOG – GOP Debate in FL on CNN – 1-26-2012

Thanks, AdLib.

That last one sounds like it might actually be challenging for the candidates.

I’m out — see ya’ll next time if I can!

I came in late and didn’t see that — it would be priceless in an opponent’s ad!

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 7:11 pm

Wonder how much he’s paying the new debate coach — hey, is that considered a business expense if he won???

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 7:10 pm

MSNBC is neatly slicing and dicing the debate at the moment.

Any idea how many more of these Republican debates to go?

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 7:09 pm

Yeah, but there was no follow-up that would have truly carried that across, like the last time when he insisted that some guy should die if he didn’t get insurance and found out laterhe needed surgery.

Ron Paul. He didn’t get the kind of questions that really reveal his bat-shitty craziness.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 7:03 pm

CNN has become increasingly irrelevant. Wish MSNBC could get a shot at these guys.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 7:00 pm

Grover Cleveland was a Unitarian. I doubt that could happen in this climate.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:57 pm

Or lack thereof.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:51 pm

He’s running out of money…

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:50 pm

Well, he did say they could decide for themselves, and didn’t they vote against statehood some time ago?

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:47 pm

I can’t believe Ron Paul is a Baptist, let alone a Christian.

Just seems so incongruous.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:45 pm

Haven’t Puerto Ricans themselves voted against statehood?

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:43 pm

Yeah, let’s try that Cuban uprising thing again, Newt.

It worked so well last time.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:37 pm

Ah, yes, Rick, that child you lost because your wife had to have an abortion in her second trimester.

But you oppose allowing abortion in cases where the health of other mothers is at risk ’cause that’s just an “excuse.”

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:28 pm

Snort!

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:24 pm

Geez, Wolf, why don’t you just ask ’em which tree they’d like to be if they could be a plant???

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:21 pm

Yep. Even though Mittens actually explained it quite well.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:18 pm

Quick, candidates — how many REPUBLICAN Hispanics in office can you name??

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 26, 2012 @ 6:17 pm

I think Mittens just gave Obama an excellent line for defending the health insurance mandate.

Gracias, amigo.

He is classy.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 23, 2012 @ 7:43 pm

Well, it’s been real….heh…

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 23, 2012 @ 7:42 pm

Say it, say it, Mitty!!!

CLASS WARFARE!!!

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 23, 2012 @ 7:38 pm

I’m sure Obama’s campaign staff is merrily taking notes — what a goldmine!

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 23, 2012 @ 7:29 pm

Not quite — according to the Mormon religion the best Mormon couples will each get their own planet to populate, just as it happened with Earth.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 23, 2012 @ 7:26 pm

Paul doesn’t believe in subsidizing people, the Everglades ain’t people.

» Posted By Weirdwriter On January 23, 2012 @ 7:18 pm

Geez. My grandfather was born in Texas and spoke far better Spanish than English ’til the day he died. He couldn’t go to school then because he would have had to to speak English — speaking Spanish was punished.

Having important federal materials in various languages won’t bankrupt us, or make us less as a people.
