How Genuine Are Hillary Clinton’s Attacks on Wall Street?

Bernie’s agenda goes farther than Obama’s, and I am not sure in what way he is superficial. Bernie has acknowledged what Obama has done and has been clear on what he thought Obama’s biggest mistake was – namely not keeping together the movement that elected him to keep the pressure on. Bernie is representing a large swath of people who are fed up with the way politics works, and is drawing dedicated interest from people who have felt very much disinfranchised by one cookie-cutter politician after the next. I know this because I’m one of those people. I don’t want another Clinton in the White House, and sure as hell not another Bush. I don’t want another politician telling me what I want to hear only to more or less follow the status quo when they get in office. I want someone who isn’t afraid to say what so many think. I want someone who isn’t afraid to say “well I haven’t thought much about that issue, but here’s what makes sense to me.” I want a president that I can be proud of and who is beholden not to a few big corporate donors, but the millions of people who supported him/her. Is that idealistic? Probably, but I think we are better than what we’ve been, and I think having an honest politician in the highest office in the land is a good way to move forward. (It doesn’t hurt that Bernie’s agenda meshes very well with what Pope Francis has been saying, another man I greatly respect.) just my thoughts 🙂

Good article, and this is exactly why Bernie supporters are so invested in him – a politician with ethics. (On par with a lawyer telling the truth, if you ask my father.) Hillary doesn’t mean what she says. She isn’t going to bite the hand (er…wallet) that feeds her. She is pandering in a most obvious fashion, and that tells me that even though she won’t mention her primary opponent, she is legit worried about the excitement Bernie is drawing from actual people, not corporations. Heck I am even strongly considering donating to a political campaign, something I never would have believed. Bernie is genuine though, his record proves it, the crowds sense it, and he may just get the political revolution he wants. #FeelTheBern

Religion and Politics

Wait, my dad is opinionated??? How was I not aware of this? 😀 (just kidding, I knew)

Good thoughts overall. Extremism of any kind is generally not a good thing, and I agree that religion and politics should be kept as separate as possible.

I’ve noted being a big fan of the current pope, and it’s relevant here as well – specifically in what he did last summer (I think, I’m forgetful when it comes to dates) in inviting Jewish and Islamic leaders to the Vatican for a joint prayer session. Talk about leading by example – and shows that even the leader of the Catholic church can be open and accepting.

A Bit of History: Cuba and the USA

Also this:

“Rubio dismissed the suggestion that he is out of step with a younger generation of Cubans in Florida.

“I don’t care if the polls say that 99 percent of people believe we should normalize relations in Cuba,” he said. “I still think that before we can normalize relations in Cuba, democracy has to come first, or at least significant steps toward democracy.””

….so a guy supposedly representing the people only cares what the 1% think. He said it himself. What a toolshed.

Good history lesson, Pop 🙂

It’s possible that opening up ties to Cuba doesn’t help in the long term, but if nothing else at least Obama is trying something new instead of sticking to the past 50 years of failed policy in regards to Cuba.

Also another accomplishment for Pope Francis in a long line of pretty amazing things since he took on Pope-i-ness (Pope-i-tude? whatever) 🙂

Naturally the Republicans don’t like it because Obama did it, and Faux-News doesn’t like to mention the 50-something political prisoners also being released by Cuba as part of this. Go figure.

Morning Blog — 11-20-2014

Dad,

I saw a post about that on Facebook as well, and it’s baffling to me. These 1 in 3 men either have no sense of morals, no good father to teach them right from wrong, and/or there’s something fundamentally wrong with them – maybe a combination of those things. No male I know or have known to any degree have ever considered rape an okay thing ever – so what is wrong with these guys? As I said, it’s completely baffling, and scary.

Time For A Lighthearted Piece

Two bee or not too be… that’s the confusing question.

How about resume (to restart) and resume (the thing you give to potential employers). Granted the latter should have an accent on the end, but that is rarely added in my experience. Oh, latter and ladder.

One (won) could go on and on. 🙂

Science vs. The GOP

Dad, the GOP has to fear-monger because they don’t actually have a platform to stand on. They are anti-science, women, poor, middle class, livable wage, – they have nothing but fear to go on. It’s baffling how they can get any votes at all.

Ebola And The GOP Deregulation

A couple points… the GOP is all for regulation if it helps their cause. I’d point to their various methods of making it harder for people to vote as an example of regulation that the GOP is happy to have more of. Oh they want to regulate women’s bodies too, because this is America and we should be free to do what we want unless it doesn’t mesh with what the religious right-wingers want, in which case regulate the heck out of it. I’m sure there are many other shining examples of Republican regulatory initiatives, but it’s late and I am tired. Also my sarcasm is coming out in force. 😀

My second point – and grant I haven’t been paying all that much attention to it – but I think three people in this country have Ebola at the moment? Anyone know if that’s an accurate number? At any rate, it’s a very small number. Did someone drop the ball – yeah, probably. I’m not sure we can really blame the CDC’s mess up on the Republicans… oh I want to because I disagree with so many of their policies, but I think the Ebola issue might just be a slip up by someone who is probably overworked and underpaid… oh okay, so yeah that is the GOP’s fault after all because they don’t want a livable minimum wage in addition to not funding anything…nevermind. GOP are jerks. (that last is my well thought out and well-defended position…)

Carry on 🙂

Boots On The Ground?

Dad, once again you have valid points. We have no business putting our troops out there again. The ONLY way I’d even consider supporting that kind of action is if it were as part of a NATO or a United Nations thing and we were not the only ones there. Ideally even then it wouldn’t be putting our people in harm’s way, but if it’s part of a larger action via the UN at least we wouldn’t be seen as ‘going it alone’ as we did in Bush Jr’s war (oh we had his “Coalition” that was a few minor countries we paid off to agree with us). As far as the draft goes – I don’t see a need for it, but if it were ever needed again it should be everyone capable of serving – no exceptions for wealth or anything else.

You and mom made us who we are. 🙂

You did what you had to do dad. Of course you feel bad, that’s part of what makes you the good person you are. If you hadn’t acted in that moment I wouldn’t be here, my sister wouldn’t be here, and your grandkids wouldn’t be here. You didn’t ask to be put in that situation, but acted in self defense/self preservation. The blame and guilt belong with those who start wars. Love you 🙂

Should Pot Be Legal or Not?

I don’t have any issue with pot being legalized. I think all the reasons are clear from your post and the various comments. I have plenty of friends and acquaintances who smoke it, and though I’ve never tried it (no desire to, and randomly drug tested by the FRA – seem like reason enough not to go there) I’ve never had any problem with friends that do. They’ve offered and I’ve politely declined. They have even offered to go smoke it outside when I was at one of their houses.

I will say I’m not a fan of the smell – makes me kinda queasy. 🙂

I think most folks who smoke it already do so, and legalizing it wouldn’t create a huge flood of omg-it’s-legal-I-can-finally-try-it types.

I think Vermont will legalize it soon – we’re a pretty progressive state on the whole.

Glad you posted these pictures pop, very cool. 🙂

Visiting my parents’ house is like walking into a Disney movie, except these critters don’t do the laundry for you… still, it’s nice to be sitting at the dining room table eating breakfast or playing cards and glance behind you to see whatever random woodland creature has dropped by. There’s always something out there.

I’ll be up to visit sometime during my week off. Time away from the ‘city’ (such as it is) is always a good thing. 🙂

Understanding How the Military Works

Wars throughout history have been all about people with power trying to control the people without. That’s a fairly broad statement of course, and there’s always the defending side to consider as like people, countries should have the right to defend themselves. Even a war that appears to be a good cause though, like the first Iraq war (we were defending poor little Kuwait) was all about the money (oil). We’re like a bunch of siblings bickering (bickering with missiles and bombs and guns) and we as a race need to grow the hell up and get along, before it’s too late.

This pretty much sums it up:

An Open Letter To Any And All “Conservatives”

Cyndibru, I said below I didn’t think my dad would get a reasoned response from conservatives, but you’ve proven me wrong. Thanks for that 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading more of your responses and whatever lively debate comes forth from them.

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 9, 2014 @ 6:22 pm

republicans have been cutting health care, farm aid, welfare, and social programs for years. “Obamacare” is essentially the same as “Romneycare” which worked just fine in Massachusetts – the republicans would have loved it if Mittens had become pres and instituted Romneycare. Instead because it’s Obama’s, they oppose it.

I also do not understand your “when did you stop beating your wife question”?

Is Obamacare the best solution to health care? No, surely it is not, but it is reform to a system that is broken and the jury is still out as to it’s success or failure. Repubs declaring it a failure when they’ve blocked so much about it is ridiculous (like most of their arguments).

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 9, 2014 @ 4:34 pm

“every single one of your points is BS” …dear sir, tell me how that is a) not hostile and b) a legit argument in any way shape or form?

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 9, 2014 @ 4:30 pm

I know you’re not being negative, but as certain folks have already shown on here, that’s seemingly all the other side has to offer.

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 9, 2014 @ 4:29 pm

I think you have some very good and valid points pop. I also believe the reason you won’t find legitimate non-troll defenses of republican/tea party platforms is that is no defense for them. They would be against a democratic president anyway, but one who is black and ‘born in Kenya’ (yet another hilarious assertion they have no evidence for) they will be vehemently against. Even if Obama said ‘let’s give tax breaks to the Koch brothers’ the republicans/tea party would oppose him. It’s absurd. That, however, is exactly what you get when a party has no defense for its outdated platform – you go negative. You bash the other side. You make up stuff. As that’s what they are doing/have done, I don’t believe you will get a legitimate conservative response no matter how valid the questions are.

Dem’s voted for the Iraq resolution based on falsified testimony by the bush administration.

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 9, 2014 @ 3:27 pm

It seems to me that if someone says another’s opinions are ‘total BS’ without offering a shred of evidence, it means they have no evidence to support their side. JumpingJackFlash your comment here is the equivalent of a 5 year old replying ‘nuh uh’. My father asked for honest answers to real questions, not a childish and unhelpful response.

One Veteran’s Opinion About the POW Swap

Release implies that he just opened their cells and let them walk out – it was a prisoner exchange. Honestly I’m not sure if the semantics matter – in the end he got an American back in exchange for some guys who have no charges against them being held (in my opinion) illegally in the first place.

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 5, 2014 @ 8:42 am

Seriously? How is releasing five people who have been held without any charge for a decade in exchange for an American citizen and soldier (even if he wasn’t a good soldier) breaking the law? Give me a break.

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 4, 2014 @ 6:29 pm

I agree – if he was a deserter, maybe he had a good reason too. Regardless, he’s an American citizen and soldier and if he did something he shouldn’t have, five years in captivity more that covers him. Everyone deserves to have their say, a second chance if they did do something wrong, and no one deserves to be a POW for any length of time.

» Posted By NirekJunior On June 2, 2014 @ 5:18 pm

I don’t see any problem with trading prisoners we don’t even want for an American citizen. The Pres said he’d close Guantanamo and naturally was blocked from that, but if he’s able to shrink the inmate population there while getting back one of ours – I say go for it. Trade em all, then there’s no reason to have the stupid prison and they can shut it down.
