Where We Are

Thank you, my friend. I am trying to hold the emotions together. It’s hard right now. But I am a person of faith, and it helps keep me grounded. I hope you and your family are safe during these challenging days…

AdLib, it’s great to see you again, my friend. I do apologize for being away so long. Planned to step away from this. But life had other plans…

I was looking to make sense of why I am driven to share and write. My wife Emma and I talked about it.

I told her that I do so for the same reason my 75 year old uncle, a doctor and man whose name I carry, sees Covid-19 patients every day.

“It’s what I signed up for,” the former Vietnam War Marine told me without hesitation.

Then I understood. When I write, when I report, when I record our history, I am honoring a contract I signed a long time ago.

To not do what I am doing now, even if it means no one sees a word of it, would be soul crushing.

Our story must be told and told by us. That’s a promise I made. That is what I signed up for…

Thank you for the love,my friend. I offer the same to you. Stay safe.

There seems to be an effort to pin the death on the victim, arguing that he was high and in poor health — which would transfer the “murder” into an “accident.”

This is frightening…

Making The Truth Invisible.

Truth, brother.

Hey, AdLib. It’s good to be home again. I missed you all. And now I am a grandfather of twins – one of each.

As usual, you nailed it. We sometimes become complacent, thinking we have defeated these people, yet here they are, alive and unwell. So we fight on.

One reason I am not caught up in the daily drama of the primary season is that whoever the ticket turns out to be, the choice is clear and strategic. Trump must go while the idea of that is still a possibility.

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On June 20, 2019 @ 5:10 pm

Yes, and unless something changes, he is above the law. The tax cuts are just part of his “grooming.” He has embraced ideologies as old as the nation. He has embraced the “Othering” of all not like him, and all who do not like him. We never addressed any of the issues that created a world in which Donald Trump could see himself as a king.

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On June 20, 2019 @ 1:02 pm

Give Trump credit for one thing: He has stripped away the veneer of respectability from American political and cultural life. He is not the outlier, he is the result of never addressing White Supremacy.

Open Letter to the New University of Colorado President

The kids now are greatly outnumbered, and feel like they are essentially on their own.

Hey, my old friend. Good to see you again. Life at CU was difficult. We knew we were not welcomed. One of my professors made the comment I cited. I was one of the young people in the building. I was 19, just a week shy of my 20th birthday.

I am working on a book of personal narratives of former CU Black students tentatively called the CU Black and Gold Project. A lot of the stories mirror my own.

I could not have said it better, my friend…

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On June 21, 2019 @ 10:03 am

Colorado reminds me of the private school my daughter attended. The sales pitch from the school was that she would be exposed to diversity if she attended. What we found once she was there was that SHE was the “diversity.” Kinda like being “Exhibit A” for the White kids to be able to study up close and personal. CU is okay with Black kids being there, but not to many, not to the point where they can make decisions, influence ideas, be more than “Exhibit A.”

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On June 21, 2019 @ 9:30 am

Funny thing is that quite a few of the people involved in the CU Black and Gold book say that if they had to do it over again, they would have gone to an HBCU.

I hear you. Boulder is its own unique kind of.. um.. place. I did send the letter to the Camera, but they wanted a much shorter letter with no guarantee of publication.

Truth.

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On June 20, 2019 @ 9:32 am

True, but here is the dilemma: There are schools that are doing just what you say, preparing young people. The UCLA/Arizona report I cite mentions high schools in Black and Brown neighborhoods that do a better job with their kids than the nearby White schools only to be overlooked in favor of those same White schools.

Thank you, my friend . Onward…

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On June 20, 2019 @ 8:47 am

Indeed. Colorado is not alone. I chose it only because I am an alum. You are correct when you say that this is a “system” problem, a societal problem.

Donald Trump’s Acceptance Speech at the RNC Tonight – The Sh*t Hits The Fans

This is what White privilege and White entitlement look like in the United States. No one who is not White and male could do any of what this man has done, said any of what this man has said, and be taken seriously to run the US government.

Anyone think Obama would have survived failed businesses, lawsuits alleging racial discrimination, three marriages, a wife who posed nude who he started dated while married to another wife, vitriolic (to be kind) rhetoric…?

My hope is that his defeat is staggering to the point that it forces the Racist Right to either learn to get along with others or at least to slink back under their rocks.

Trump Sues All Americans For Repeating and Remembering What He Says

Trump won’t get me. Know why? Because I have a good memory, the best memory. And I remember things. Good things. And they are all terrific things. The best. The kinds of things that will Trump grate again…

If Superdelegates Weren’t a Fraud, Could they Help the Dems Win the White House?

I guess I’ll be the one to say it. At the end of the day, parties can do whatever they want to pick their candidates — even letting nonparty members to be run for office. These are not real elections. Those who want to vote for Clinton, Sanders, Trump, heck Rubio or Bush — can do so in November.

What I find interesting is that the two most interesting candidates in these two primaries are not party members. Maybe this will open the door to a multi-party system.

The Case for/against Hillary Clinton

I am hoping for a Trump nomination, simply because he may be the easiest to defeat. I want the GOP tied to the monster it created.

The GOP is embarrassed — not by Trumps views, but by his brashness in “wearing his sheet” in such a public way. By comparison, Crubio will look “reasonable” and thus electable. Make no mistake: they are the same.

To me, Clinton is LBJ to Obama’s JFK. Clinton, like Johnson, is not nice, knows where bodies are buried, and likely put a few there. She is a bulldog, who knows the game. She, in my opinion, has a good chance of solidifying the Obama legacy.

If Senders wins the nomination, I am all in with him, though I would love to see him in the Senate, where he and Warren can move some serious issues.

GOP Will Help Dems Retake Senate By Putting Party Before Country and Constitution

Did not know that, Monica. Thank you for adding that perspective.

» Posted By James Michael Brodie On February 23, 2016 @ 10:21 am

Exactly, Monica, and good to see you, my friend. There is no reason for the Senate not to act. I have a feeling that Obama will nominate Sri Srinivasan. He has already gone through the process and got approved unanimously.

Gonna be fun to watch
