The End of Jobs in America

Most excellent article, AdLib. Wow, very impressive indeed, and right on the money. I like that you did include solutions. I wonder, however, if any of those are possible before disaster hits. Remember, we also have deal with corporations having more power as never before. And then there is the problem with privatising prisons for cheap labor, a really huge story that the corporate-controlled MSM will never report. Things like prison privatization happen at the secretive ALEC meeting every year. Amy Goodman had a feature on this the other day.

THIS is what we are up against – the fact that our gov’t and corporate collusion is not even secretive anymore. They don’t have to be. They have been sanctioned by the SCOTUS:

“Hundreds of state legislators from all 50 states have gathered in New Orleans for the annual meeting of the American Legislative Exchange Council, known as ALEC. Critics say the Washington-based organization plays a key role in helping corporations secretly draft model pro-business legislation that has been used by state lawmakers across the country. Unlike many other organizations, ALEC’s membership includes both state lawmakers and corporate executives who gather behind closed doors to discuss and vote on model legislation. In recent months, ALEC has come under increasing scrutiny for its role in drafting bills to attack workers’ rights, roll back environmental regulations, privatize education, deregulate major industries, and passing voter ID laws. Nonetheless, this year’s annual ALEC meeting boasts the largest attendance in five years, with nearly 2,000 guests in attendance. We go to New Orleans to speak with Lisa Graves, executive director of the Center for Media and Democracy. Last month, her organization released 800 model bills approved by companies and lawmakers at recent ALEC meetings.” [includes rush transcript]

THE EAGLE (has trouble) LANDING

I couldn’t agree more, especially as currently nearly ever nature story ties into the EPA or climate change. I think that’s a great idea. It would certainly bring me back here even more often. 🙂

I heartily concur!

It is totally of interest! You actually may have inspired me to do a post on animals as well one of these days. Have you heard that bald eagles are becoming even more populous than they used to be? My mom says she has seen one in Kankakee, IL where I grew up! I know I never saw one there. That’s really far south (I think?) for them.

Thank you so much for this fantastic post! How cool! I’m an animal nut, and of course that includes birds. I get to see big hawks in Griffith Park up the road and am always awe-stricken by them. You are correct in that their call is very impressive.

These photos are awesome.

Arianna’s Marie Antoinette Moment

Awesome article. It makes me want to delete my HP account immediately. UGH. I knew Arianna was bad, but I didn’t know she was this bad.

What a hack. I hope the word spreads and she becomes a pariah on the left, which is all she deserves for selling us out.

The Death of Moderation

Extremism here has become mainstream. And it was engineered thus. Even on NPR yesterday, someone used the term “ground zero” to refer to the protest in Madison. Seriously? Is “ground zero” the new term for any place that’s newsworthy now?

Moderation is good, in just about everything. And we are no longer allowed that in our ever-increasingly violent and adrenaline-addicted society. Things have to be exciting! That’s why drug use and alcoholism and other forms of escapism abound. Critical thinking is, therefore, out of style and out the window.

Great article, with lots to ponder. Thanks.

We’re the Dubya nation, alright. That explains the popularity of Palin, who is really just Dubya in drag.

As far as the comparison to nazis…. since now that’s apparently not allowed (no matter how apt), because the mainstream media made that a no-no (can’t have people understanding how Goebbels’ agenda mirrors their own, can we?), I use the word “fascist” instead. Or Neocon, which is the appropriate title for our current batch of nazi/fascists in charge.

Invite For Collaboration Part 2:

THere is much, much, MUCH more to the neocon agenda. Most of it doesn’t even have to do with world-domination. Most of it has to do with dominating every single person in this country. Right now their agenda is busting the unions, for example. Corporatizing schoools….etc. They already spent 30 years dummying us down. I can’t even think of an aspect in our lives in which they aren’t in charge and are making worse…. whether it’s climate change, attempts at new energy sources, poisoning the environment, etc. They are dominating it all.

If you read Glenn Greenwald, you will see the whole gamut. It is true, but I realize it’s very hard for people to support Obama to believe.

In any case, you’ll see it in time, sadly. Believe me, I’m not happy about all I know.

🙁

Waiting for Bizarro Superman

He is totally onto something and you are spot on.

It makes me sick to see women regressing at such a rapid pace. I don’t even know where to start, but Bill pretty much nailed it. Everyone is regressing… not just women.

Did Krugman nail it? Or was he hammering US?

I’m so glad someone pimped this site on Huffpo. I’m sick of Huffpo with the moderation crap.

In any case, I’ve tended to agree with Krugman since the beginning. He is the voice of reason.

And I also believe that Rahm Emmanuel and DLC Democrats are our undoing. I think the mess that’s unfolding is going to be cataclysmic; that being said, catharsis is sometimes a good thing, even if painful. The bottom line is that the corporations own our politicians, and if that doesn’t change (how can it, save some sort of populace uprising?) nothing else will.
