Huffington Post Goes NSA on Its Members

Hey Reincarnation ~ I just checked and have lost 600 fans so far. That’s at least as many people who have closed their accounts. I still have mine to track how many are leaving, but I’ll close mine soon too. I’ll NEVER sign in with the FB link. YUK YUK YUK!!! The definition of “Big Brother is Watching You!”

» Posted By HLL On December 19, 2013 @ 6:36 am

It was unkind of me to say and I retract what I said! It ‘s so not me to judge anyone. I let my harsh feeling towards Huff Poo get tangled up with my feelings about innocent posters… I just don’t like to see people used and Arianna is clearly using posters for her own end.

I was such an idealist, thinking we were “doing some good” by posting there. Perhaps we did. I’ll never know. But my posting days on HP are certainly over.

Hey escribacat! Great to *see* you here.

I was one of those so invested that I accepted all the HP junk bit by bit: The aol purchase; the heavy-handed moderation; the trolletariat; even the horrible “new” format. But the FB link was the last straw.

I feel like I’ve awakened from a dream……… I feel so much better now! 😉

I click on HP once a day to keep track of the number leaving. Eventually I’ll quit that one click. But for the record, as of this a.m., I’ve lost 550 fans, so accounts ARE being removed even though some have said HPoo isn’t deleting accounts.

I had 11k+ fans but will never go back to HP. Looking at HP now is like looking at a shadow. What made it great for me, were all the brilliant posters and wonderful friends. All gone now from that site. I clicked on an article yesterday that only had 20 posts and didn’t recognize a single poster.

And I look at old timers still posting there as a little pathetic. I know that isn’t nice of me, but no matter the excuses for continuing to post, you’re still doing it on a horrible site that is only making money off of you while you post. Anyway, HP is over for me. ONWARDS!

Ah. Thanks! That’s GREAT!

» Posted By HLL On December 16, 2013 @ 6:41 am

oops! I meant FB-log-in-link-up….

» Posted By HLL On December 16, 2013 @ 6:12 am

GREAT article, RF! Thanks for posting. I’ll NEVER return to HP and they lie! This wasn’t about promoting “civil conversation;” the FB-log-in-link-up is about mining personal private info for corporations and the government.

» Posted By HLL On December 16, 2013 @ 6:11 am

Tra la 😉

They may miss us but I don’t miss them…. or the trolletariat… or the heavy moderating….

» Posted By HLL On December 15, 2013 @ 3:55 pm

Hey No Man. It’s GREAT to see YOU here too 😉

» Posted By HLL On December 15, 2013 @ 1:38 pm

WHA HOO!!! I haven’t yet closed my account because I want to track what’s happening with my fan base. As of this a.m. I’ve lost 500 fans representing at least that many accounts closed. Keep up the good work, fellow former HP-posters. Like you say, Smot: No clicks – No bucks! 😉

» Posted By HLL On December 15, 2013 @ 8:19 am

Right on.

» Posted By HLL On December 14, 2013 @ 8:37 pm

Welcome, my friend, to an HP refugee site! Such fun that we’re all still gathering away from H Poo as it’s now being called 😉

» Posted By HLL On December 14, 2013 @ 5:54 pm

Hear, hear, Mr. Hoodoo. Very well said!

I stayed with HP when aol bought it. I stayed after moderating on steroids kicked in. I even stayed after the heinous “new” format was installed, which I didn’t like. But the FB-HP-log-in-link-up was the last straw for me! No more.

Happy to see you on the Planet 😉

I experienced the same thing about posting. I’d take a long time to compose a post, make sure it was fact check-able, footnoted my sources (like Rand Paul does not!) and then would post. But sometimes, even posts that had 500 faves would get DELETED because Boehner or McConnell or the Koch’s were offended by my truth.

I always knew I’d written something right if it brought the trolletariat out in force and eventually got deleted.

But was so sick of the truth being deleted while gross, insulting, moronic and crude posts staying on the threads.

Actually, as each day goes by, I’m glad HP is over for me. There’s so much more time to accomplish many other things! And old friends can still connect up on the Planet.

» Posted By HLL On December 14, 2013 @ 1:03 pm

Hey my friend. Here we are, free at last, in California!
Welcome 😉

» Posted By HLL On December 14, 2013 @ 12:58 pm

Right on, missjulz. The fact that HP wanted to strip us of our precious “privacy” and sell our names, friends and family to the highest bidder is only one of the despicable aspects of what HP just did with the FB-link-up-log-in.

» Posted By HLL On December 14, 2013 @ 12:57 pm

goleafsgo, my HP friend!! Welcome 😉 Every hour brings another HP refugee to the Planet. It’s so cool. Whereas I will miss HP very much, it’s a great time to forage out into new territories!

So gald you’re here!

Hey Opp ~ I had no idea how HP worked. How one got a yellow or blue colored post. I had no idea how I became a “Political Pundit” and had my posts put up in the Blue Box. But I took that responsibility seriously and tried to write informative, truthful and verifiably factual posts. But I became a Political Pundit and Community Moderator by the will of those that run HP, not by anything I did.

I flagged many gross and rude posts that stayed posted and noticed with dismay that intelligent, thoughtful posts were deleted, included many of my own, because they went against the clearly Republican slant of HP.

I’m sad to lose the community on HP because I learned a great deal from brilliant posters like richmisty, medz, thunderclapnewman, Philip Taylor, etc. too many to list here and many names I can’t remember, but anyway, it was a marvelous educational experience for me and I will miss that.

Once aol bought HP, the moderation kicked in and then went into overdrive. Then the “new” format eliminated another batch of posters, and this HP-FB link up has got rid of most. I’ve lost 450 fans to date representing that many closed accounts in my arena.

HP had a goldmine of wonderful people and we were dealing with the trollz or not, as the case may be. But our Freedoms were being cut back and cut back and cut back. Our language was censored, and then our thoughts. Eventually it was very restricting to post there.

So. Onwards! A new chapter for us all. Thank you, Planet POV for being here!

My dear major ~ So happy you’ve found the PlanetPOV (or maybe you knew about it all along?) I’m thrilled to be here and find so many chums.

So grateful to the creators of the Planet!

Happy Holiday Season, majorwiblit 😉

Hello my friend!! So lovely to see you and so many wonderful familiar faces. It’s takes the sting out of losing our community on HP. Yes, they really blew it but clearly, they meant to punt us from their site and they finally managed to do that. I hope, not very charitably I admit (!) that it hurts their financial bottom line!!

I tried logging into the all-len-all site but was “forbidden.” Dunno what’s up with that. Lots of HP-ers over there too.

Beautiful Saturday and weekend to you, my friend 😉

Hi Danchi ~ Welcome to an HP-blogger-refugee site! So many of us are here.

I felt the same way you did. I’d flag comments that were rude, crude, vile, misogynistic and racist and even after flagging them several times, they’d remain on the thread whereas thoughtful, political posts weren’t even posted. I even made a list of 15 of the most disgusting posts I’d flagged that hadn’t been removed and sent them to the one person I Emailed at HP who was in charge of us bloggers for a time. I said, “Look, if you’re going to have Community Moderators then why don’t you trust us? I don’t flag posts that I disagree with, hello (!) I only flag posts that are offensive and gross. If we flag a post it should immediately disappear.”

But nothing happened and the horrible, vile posts continued and were left on the threads.

The HP-FB-log-in-link-up was the last straw for me but happily, all was not lost, because it’s been such fun finding old HP friends here and elsewhere 😉

Hey VegasBabe, so happy to see you here. Congrats on closing your HP account. I haven’t had the heart to do it yet but I’ll never sign in with a FB link-up so my posting days are over.

» Posted By HLL On December 13, 2013 @ 8:52 pm

That’s exactly correct, AdLib.

I’ve posted numerous times against the Koch’s/Rove/McConnell/Cantor/Ryan/ALEC/the GOPTea-voter-suppression-laws/GOPTea laws against women, etc. If Corporations and most importantly, if the Koch’s, Rove and their dirty tricks can find me, I’m sunk. It’s just one of the many reasons why the FB link-up is HORRIBLE.

I have a false FB page and I STILL get hundreds of Emails from FB that I delete without reading. I haven’t even been to my fake FB page for 2 years. I don’t Tweet and I have a flip phone. I’m as “off-grid” as I can be, and I’m just a private citizen of no consequence!

But I’d never feel free to express my Progressive opinions, especially the TRUTH and verifiable FACTS if all the trollz that have haunted me at HP could follow me into my life. HORRIBLE thought!

» Posted By HLL On December 13, 2013 @ 12:06 pm

Hi missjulz!!! So GREAT to see you here.

Your fascination is interesting. What made posting at HP fun for me was all the posters and “internet” friendships. The warmth, laughter, and like-minds. As well, I LEARNED so much every day from fellow posters. I loved reading the different POVs. Even the trollz could be handled, or, in my case, totally ignored.

I eventually found I could handle the “new” format even though I hated it and it put an end to long chats or debates. But the FB link-up was the last straw. A totally naked ploy to mine personal information for corporate use, or worse. If you voiced your views on HP, as I did, and those views were contrary to some very dark people’s, as mine were, good luck with trying to duck dirty trick shenanigans via FB info!

What is happening to our HP- virtual community is we find other sites with fellow refugees and the link-ups keep on keepin’ on!

So happy you’re here. Only been here a few days myself and need to learn the ropes, but so far, so many HP chums have made it over 😉

Hey OR ~ Here’s a link AdLib posted for us newcomers. It has directions on how to get your avi 😉

RF – Ditto ditto ditto to all your posts! It’s like you took the words right out of my head. Agree with everything you say!

Happy Weekend, my friend 😉

» Posted By HLL On December 13, 2013 @ 10:12 am

You summed it up PERFECTLY, AdLib. That’s exactly correct, imo.

But I still maintain another point: Our posts were POWERFUL and therefore annoying to the very people we Progressives were writing truthfully about and THEY DIDN’T LIKE IT!!!

We will just have to find ways to communicate as powerfully to all so we can exchange info and learn, grow and evolve into a more tolerant, compassionate, intelligent and well-informed electorate.

» Posted By HLL On December 13, 2013 @ 10:08 am

Hey funk ~ You and I were at HP long enough to have experienced the various gradations of their taking away our freedom to post. That is what I resented most about all the new “modifications.”

Actually, the troll-situation was annoying but handle-able.

But the FB link-up is the coup de gras for me. Along with opening yourself up to corporate invasion, you also open yourself up to robo-calls and the like. NO THANK YOU.

But such fun to see so many HP chums here. There are many I miss terribly, but I hope they’ll find their way here 😉

Exactly, Allymax.
