I’m Throwing Away My Vote Next Tuesday

Hi silly little me,

I also live in Massachusetts and will be voting next Tuesday.
While I think Martha Coakley has an intensity while campaigning, I do believe in her issues and they are in the progressive camp:

Universal Pre-school
Lower college costs and availability to more students
Universal health care
Improving education K thru 12, not making more cuts to its funding
Equal pay for equal work
Women making their own reproductive choices, no government interference
Sued banks for mortgage fraud
Promotes need for infrastructure rebuilding and modernization

There are more things to add, but you get my idea. Another component to this election is how much money the Kochs have poured into the state to promote Baker and Tisei. If Baker was truly not much different than the Democrat, why would they need to do that?

While I’d like to see drastic changes in our political parties, or the formation of a new party aligned with the people, not Wall Street, the Banks and the MIC, it needs to happen from the bottom up, grass roots.
Mr. Falchuk seems like an OK guy but a bit whiney. If Baker wins, get ready for more of Mitt Romney.

I’ll be so glad when this election is over – the ads are everywhere.

Welcome to The Planet – A Guide to Blogging at PlanetPOV

AdLib: Thanks for this article. I have not yet tried to do the ‘whitelisting’ of my outlook express email account as you suggested. I’ll wait until my son comes by to walk me through it – I don’t want to mess up what’s there already.

Regarding the jetpack and WordPress, I’m having a complication. I tried to sign up, but it recognized my sign-on name and then asked for my password. I tried many in my repetoire but none were correct. I don’t remember ever signing up for WordPress – and the Lost password recovery wants some verification to change my password – which I don’t possess!

So that’s where I’m stuck at present. Hoping with your vast experience you will provide some words of wisdom.

Thanks again AdLib!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Our Corporate Anthem

Congratulations on a well written first article RF! The topic of course is compelling – corporatism and its overtaking of government and legislators to accomplish its own greedy goals. We only have to look at the ALEC agenda to see it in action – and the sad thing is that in many states the rightwing has implanted themselves in elected state offices in order to carry out their plans.

We do all bear the responsibility to speak up and show up – especially for the primaries and then the elections! It amazes me that so few can determine candidates (20% in many cases) because others don’t bother to vote in the primaries. Perhaps many feel it’s a lost cause but I think many don’t pay attention to ‘politics’ at that level and only react after the harm is done. We need to re-engage people in order to wage a battle worthy of us.

Thanks again.

Huffington Post Goes NSA on Its Members

Hi NoManIsanIsland: Happy to see you here. I’m sorry that I did not see your post until today – Yes, I do feel HP to be very manipulative and lying on a continuous basis. I’m glad to be out of there I must say. So great to be able to write a comment and have it appear without waiting for 3 days.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 22, 2013 @ 2:22 pm

AdLib: Back again with unresolved problem concerning WordPress. I wonder if you received the comment I sent to you on your post about tips for newcomers? Since I haven’t heard back from you, I thought to try again.

It seems when I attempted to sign on to WordPress, my log in name was recognized by them and then they asked for my password. Alas, after many different attempts were tried, nothing worked. I cannot remember signing up for WordPress before but that being said, I cannot even change the password without including some verification of my ownership of my log in.

What can you advise me to do?

Hello Dawn – So good to see you here – Many of us refusers have come over to PPOV. Refusers not refugees – because we refuse to comply with ridiculous requirements, i.e., the FB thing. HP had become so frustrating that in many ways I’m glad that they dealt the final blow so to speak – I’m very relieved to be out of there no longer being treated so badly when posting. I began to suspect this was their agenda when they attacked the Sunday Talking Heads section by changing the format abruptly and ignoring our calls to change it back as well as the overmoderation of our comments.

I’m learning this site and look forward to a more positive experience and I hope to see you also from time to time.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 17, 2013 @ 1:22 pm

Thanks, Kesmarn! Exactly correct – Freedom from abuse and bullying. I will catch onto how things work here and hope to be a positive contributor.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 13, 2013 @ 5:07 pm

Not posting on HP for the last few days has begun to feel like freedom – Really, now I understand something about how and why abused women repeatedly stay with or go back to their abusers over and over again. That’s what the last few years have felt like with the influx of the trolls and the posting of their rude, crude and nasty comments while having my within rules comments sent to limbo forever or just plain deleted without explanation.

I’m happy to be rid of that and even happier to find so many refugees arriving at POV!

There is evidence of the right hiring the paid posters to invade progressive websites. So your suspicions are spot on, Sally.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 13, 2013 @ 9:04 am

Exactly. I remember when she was still married to Mr. Huffington and he was running for very conservative senator from CA. After he lost, they divorced she suddenly developed this entirely opposite persona. She did strike gold and that was her goal I gather.

Nice to see so many former HPers and all-len-allers here today.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 13, 2013 @ 8:59 am

Their headlines had already reached tabloid stage before the demand for identity verification. Soon it will look like the Enquirer.

Hi jcinco: Same problem with me this morning. Maybe with all the new members, the server couldn’t handle the volume. Hopefully we’ll hear soon.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 13, 2013 @ 8:53 am

Ad Lib: Thank you for your excellent article filled with many details about HP that I was not fully aware of. This sudden demand was made yesterday around noon – I tried to reply to someone’s comment and instead a box popped up informing me of the new policy -and the linking of my account to Facebook if I wanted to write comments or reply.

The answer was clear for me – No way would I accept those terms. I already had seriously wanted to leave HP due to the toxic atmosphere of trolls and their nasty comments that never seemed to be moderated out.

I agree that the agenda of HP was to increase revenue but I do believe it has much to do with silencing the progressive voices and not giving them a forum to express their views prior to the midterm elections in 2014 and the next presidential election in 2016. Wouldn’t surprise me to find that the Koch brothers are somehow involved in this.

Once again I thank you for so eloquently addressing this issue and I always enjoy your posts.

Our Wonderful Media, Spinning Wins as Losses and Delusions As Facts

Thank you for writing this AdLib! I cannot stand the poor job done by the media on everything. They reported Christie’s win as though it was some big bi-partisan event, Dems and Repubs coming together to elect the bully.
The REALITY is that ONLY 24% of eligible voters in NJ actually voted! Only 1/4 of voters went to the polls. So how is this an indication of anything for Christie’s future?

If the senate election had been held simultaneously in NJ, things would have been different. Just 2 weeks ago 48% of the voters went to the polls to vote for CORY BOOKER who won by huge margins. Christie decided to make it a separate election, costing many millions of dollars extra, to have the elections held at different times to ensure his win.
Did I hear anything about this from the commentators? No.

The press is too predictable in its lack of intelligence in analyzing most things and I rarely trust what they report.

All Politics Really Are Local

Wow, Kesmarn – What a clarifying statement from you about apathetic voters and what they cost us. Excellent piece. Have you thought to submit this to your local paper as an Op-Ed or Letter to the Editor?

Breaking the Back of the Baggers

Thanks for the clarification, AdLib _ Let’s hope they do change it.

» Posted By Greta42 On October 16, 2013 @ 4:56 pm

Another excellent well-thought out posting, AdLib – You’ve identified the problem group and described them to a T. One thing I would like to add is the co-operation of Eric Cantor in the changing of the rule about who could bring a bill up for discussion in the House and a vote – He did this on Sept. 30th, the day before the ACA went into effect and 2 weeks before the debt ceiling deadline. The purpose was to prevent anyone else from being able to introduce a clean CR and vote on it.

This sounds to me as though his actions need to be investigated and the rule struck down. Anyone who has legal knowledge of this, I’d appreciate hearing from you.

The Return of American Isolationism?

Well done, Murph. For all those reasons, the American public is strongly opposed to any American military action in Syria – a very expected response to the past disastrous middle east actions you described. The British Parliament debate and decision not to join with the US in any action also reinforced the opposition here in the US.

I too wonder what a military strike would accomplish other than taking out some of the weaponry that delivered the serin gas – but then what? As we know, the Syrian opposition consists of many groups, all with their own brand of religion and grievances to say the least. Ideally, punishment should arise from the UN – and that is the travesty – that the Security Council has been neutralized by the unanimous vote requirement. To condemn use of chemical weapons is good but a dictator who violated international norms does not pay attention to shaming. Quite the conundrum…

BREAKING NEWS: Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect Killed – Police Pursuing One Other

Thanks AdLib, I plan to stay home today. You stay safe also.

» Posted By Greta42 On April 19, 2013 @ 8:01 am

Hi AdLib: I too live in the Boston area and have just learned there is a 3rd suspect who is an accomplice – and he is on an Amtrak train heading to NY, which has been stopped and is being searched.
Others have been taken into custody by police for questioning.
This has been surreal.

Gutless Shame in the American House of Lords

Agents of the gun culture, acting on behalf of the gun industry to sell guns to all, even criminals and mentally incompetent just for profit. Who in their right mind can support such a stand. They are direct lobbyists for the gun manufacturers while simultaneously and fraudulently pretending to be representing the interests of their constituents. They spread the lies spewed by the NRA knowingly, unabashedly and without shame. They ought to be chased out of office. Where’s the tar and feathers when you need it?

Hope this helps.

Hi Kalima and AdLib: I don’t know if this is the correct place to leave this message, but here goes. I received two email notices from PPOV today and when I clicked to reply to the comments, each brought me to the site but to a thread from January 2013.

Thanks for your attention.

Yes, I too wondered about the many holdovers from the previous administration – I gather it was part of his ambition to follow Lincoln’s example in assembling a “Team of Rivals”. However, when you have a totally dysfunctional congress led by the tea party, the idea of bi-partisanship goes out the window. I’m sure you’re correct about Gates’ next job earning him millions.

» Posted By Greta42 On January 8, 2014 @ 6:27 am

Hi choicelady: I will look for the article at New Republic today. The CBS Morning News show addressed Gates’ book this morning and some of his previous statements over the last few years. Both Charlie Rose and Nora O’Donnell agreed that he did say those things but they were not as bad as reported and that he focused much of his wrath at Biden.

They also interviewed reporter Rita Braver who interviewed Gates and will air it on Sunday morning show – She made some comments about his comments and they did appear to be in the book.

Nirek: They are persons except for all the exceptions allowed for being corporations. Truly a disgusting outcome courtesy of the unholy alliance of neo-cons on the Supreme Court.

» Posted By Greta42 On January 7, 2014 @ 7:06 pm

Very well said, Kalima. There is no doubt that Gates is duplicitous and when it served his purposes he pretended to support the goals of the President – and now, he is obviously looking to accomplish something else. So he starts the attack on Obama from January 7th 2014 to get the ball rolling for the midterm elections and inspire the rethuglican base.

After all, he is among the top leaders of the MIC and their quest to absorb as much tax money as possible for endless wars from which they enrich themselves.

AdLib: I changed my email for PPOV over to my hotmail address and did receive the “Welcome to the Planet” notification and just now received notification of a reply to a comment I wrote earlier today.

It’s not my favorite email account – the other(outlook express) was the one I just removed from PPOV. Can’t figure out why that suddenly stopped working.

Will do as you suggested about the JetPack thing.

Thanks and keep me posted if you learn anything please.

» Posted By Greta42 On December 16, 2013 @ 10:25 am

AdLib: Yes, the problem persists. I had to hunt for your reply to my last post since no notification was received. I haven’t lost any other emails from coming in – But I could try an alternate email account. I gather I go to my profile to do that. I’ll do it now and look for your next reply.

Thanks, AdLib!
