I’m Throwing Away My Vote Next Tuesday

Hi, slm. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on this site. Always great posts.
Regarding yours about “throwing away your vote. Sometimes we really do have to vote our conscience. It would feel wrong if we didn’t. I don’t know much about Coakley, but I do know somethings about republicans. If you do vote for an independent it will be a lost vote.
Please remember the power of the veto that a governor has. Many of the things you wish the democrats/Coakley would do in MA would certainly not be done by a republican. An R would likely not do anything you wish either.
I once changed my registration to independent from democrat because the democrats in CA had me so angry. I still get angry, but all in all, not angry enough to vote GOP. No matter how you vote, good luck to you and your state.

The Police States of America

It’s not only about race, it’s also about power. I was raised in Los Angeles. I remember well the Watt’s riots and Rodney King. The 4 white police acquitted of all charges.
Then along comes Occupy. Mostly white people being treated with disrespect, tear gas. Huge military equipment. Tearing down of tents and many being arrested,
We in California are certainly not the South but, we also have all the latest military equipment. It’s about power. The police have the power and will use that power against anyone and they do it with a gleam in their eyes.
UC Davis students were pepper sprayed by police while sitting on the ground protesting.
I may be wrong since I have never lived in the South or visited any states in the South or Missouri for that matter.
If you combine power and a racist this is what happened in MO.

Baghdad, Blowback and Bush

Thanks, Nirek. I appreciate that.

I clicked on the down thumb in error. Need more coffee, sorry.
Your post was completely true.

At least your post was posted here. Try that at any other site.
When you don’t have a dog in the fight (you say you live outside the US), then it might be best if you stay out of the fight.

Free press is a joke. On the Sunday shows they have 4 GOP to 1 democrat. When the truth starts to come out, the talking head says “we’ll have to leave it there.”
I do miss Jason Linkins/HP and his Sunday morning “eat the press” blog. He really called them out and had me laughing out loud.

An Open Letter To Any And All “Conservatives”

Great questions, Nirek.Hopefully, the few conservatives I’ve seen on the Planet will take time and answer those questions. I’d like to understand their thinking. Is it too much fox or do they just hate the idea of this President?

Was Pvt. Bergdahl Choosing Suicide?

I question why he wanted to join the army and why the army accepted him. Any recruiter, worth his salt, would have questioned his Buddhism. I agree with your tentative conclusion of him wanting to commit suicide by Afghans.
He was disillusioned by the war. I still question why he volunteered. I’m glad he’s out of Afghanistan and getting help. It will be up to the military to determine his fate.

Huffington Post Finalizes Its Divorce From Its Bloggers

Hi Fergie. I’ve been trying to find you after I received an email that you said “Hi, good to see you” to me. It’s great to see you here at PP.
I have not been on very often lately because I was getting too stressed out by politics. I needed a break before I started to pull out my hair 🙂
Glad to know you are here.

Welcome.
I had many great conversations with Simpliss-can’t remember how he spelled his name, who was a strong conservative. We found that we did agree on some things. I enjoyed our going back and forth and kidding each other for our beliefs. It was always great fun and never nasty. We became great friends and he loved teasing me about my grandson who joined the young republicans in his freshman year when he went to Berkeley. He thought it was a great joke on me because I’m a life-long liberal.
I’m looking forward to our conversations.

Chris Christie Cleared on Bridgegate by Wife

My lawyer, paid with taxpayer funds, has found me innocent of any wrongdoing or knowledge of any wrongdoing. Therefore, I am completely able and willing to run for President.
As we smart men know, it’s always some woman having “issues” that try to bring us men down!
Signed,
CC

Will Ukraine Be Putin’s Iraq?

Since Russia controls 50% of the gas going to Europe, it’s doubtful Europe will do anything in the Crimea or eastern Ukraine. We really don’t have many options. The idea of entering another war when we have been at war for 13 YEARS is horrifying. Most Americans would take to the streets to prevent that happening. Russia invaded Georgia during the Bush administration and the chickenhawks did nothing then. The republicans are just flapping their gums against the President.
Russia will not care if we put sanctions on them. They will do what they want in Ukraine and we really have no leverage. We are certainly not going into the Black Sea when Russia has a naval base there.
We need to get out of Afghanistan before the end of the year so we can prepare for anything.
Another mess!

Scenes From the Divided Highway

Wonderful poems, KT. I especially loved My threadbare Shirt and Mid-Air Masterpiece.
It’s nice that we get to learn more exciting things about our fellow posters than politics.
Thank you for sharing.

Happy New Year! Make Your Predictions For 2014 and Resolutions For President Obama

I’d like to see the President make a push for updating our infrastructure. We are falling way behind other countries and the next generation will not thank us. We will deserve their anger. Updating our power grid, our bridges and roads will add thousands of jobs and put our people to work at decent paying jobs. If we don’t save the middle class this country is doomed to failure.
Plus, extend the unemployment benefits. That money goes directly into the economy, not into an offshore bank.
My 2 cents.

Huffington Post Goes NSA on Its Members

I’m having the same problem, Greta. To my knowledge I never signed up on WordPress either and yet they claim by email address is used already??? Still trying.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 22, 2013 @ 9:18 am

Thanks, AdLib. I’ll play around today. I’m not on WordPress, so I’ll take care of that. I’m still not done with xmas shopping, so I’m off the internet most days, but soon I’ll get the hang of this.
Thanks again.

Help! I have a few emails from posters and can’t seem to find how to reply to them. I clicked on “view this comment” and it takes me to the site of comment, but I have to scroll thru days of comments. I’m doing something wrong.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 18, 2013 @ 9:42 am

It’s good to see you, funksands. I see many posters here from the old days.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 17, 2013 @ 12:44 pm

Thanks for the welcome, Nirek. I’m glad to be here!

» Posted By CAdawn On December 17, 2013 @ 12:42 pm

Agree, Friday night tunes was so much fun. Many forgotten old tunes brought back to life. We lost many great posters over the years and yet we kept plodding away hoping it would get better. Instead it was worse. Finally, it’s over.

This one takes the cake! I heard of another poster who sent an email to Ralph at hp regarding the facebook fiasco and his reply was “cool, later.”
WTH??

I will probably be the last person standing who will not join facebook. That said, when I joined hp in 2009 it was a wonderful place for me. I needed a get-a-way place and hp offered it. I was grieving the lose of 2 daughters and couldn’t seem to do anything. Getting out of bed was an accomplishment for me. At hp I found a life again. I know how sad that sounds, but I enjoyed the comments of fellow posters; some intelligent and many funny posters.HP had changed for the worse over the years, especially the heavy moderating over innocuous posts. It became more frustrating to try to post anything that hp was slowly losing its allure for me. Now that I cannot comment anymore on hp because of my refusal to join facebook, I am finally liberated and it’s a good feeling. It was fun, but the old days are gone and are never coming back. Time to move on.

It’s great to be finally free from hp. I need to get more familiar with planetpov. I’m looking forward to doing that.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 14, 2013 @ 11:33 am

My addiction to hp since 2009 is finally come to an end. I will be the last person standing who is not on facebook. It’s not easy as I’ve enjoyed reading and commenting on the many intelligent and funny posts on hp. I have to say I will miss the old days. What I won’t miss is the heavy moderation, the trolls who never seem to be moderated and typing with my fingers crossed, hoping my post made it past the mod’s.
It’s really nice to see so many old friends here. I look forward to seeing more.

How did you set up a fake FB. That might be interesting 🙂

» Posted By CAdawn On December 12, 2013 @ 9:08 am

I can understand why you are on FB. I really can’t understand how HP thought they could get away with having us sign up on FB. Strange days!
Hope your stalker is gone for good.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 12, 2013 @ 9:02 am

I’m still getting re-acquainted with planetpov this morning. I joined here the last time hp went thru a mess. Is there anyway to find out if you have a reply to your post? Sorry to be off-topic.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 12, 2013 @ 8:57 am

This is terrible news, Julieanne! This is why I will never, ever join facebook. Too easy to find out info about a person. HP really jumped the shark with this move. You may have to cancel your FB account.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 12, 2013 @ 8:45 am

Hp has lost me also. I’m done.

» Posted By CAdawn On December 12, 2013 @ 8:31 am

I have no idea how many fans have gone as I can’t post anything on HP. I’m finally done with HP.
