Two young women arguing

How does a lib engage with a RWer in a way that doesn’t convey acrimony while still standing strong?

9-11memorial

There can be no question about the historic importance of 9/11 and how it changed the course of America. There’s an enormous amount to be learned and remembered but there can be a thin line between exploring those events and exploiting the horror of that day just for ratings or other less than altruistic agendas.

Virginia Gubernatorial Candidate Bob McDonnell Holds Women's Rally

I usually try to get back to the Commonwealth once a year. I’ve lived for the past 30 years in the same part of England to which two other Virginia women, Pocahontas (my kinswoman) and Nancy Astor, were condemned; and so I feel that if I don’t wiggle my toes […]

American_Civil_War_Re-enactment_Bath

At the recommendation of a fellow Southerner, I’m currently reading a book I should have read long ago – Tony Horwitz’s Confederates in the Attic. It’s one of the most honest representations of the Southern psyche I’ve yet to read, without any of the snark, insinuation, condescension and assumption many on […]

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Americans Elect feels like a Koch-Brothers-type Tea Partying of the Left and Indies. Exploit the anger and frustration of the constituency and drive them together under a populist tent…that’s in fact owned by the wealthy.

You start out in 1954 by saying, “N—-r, n—-r, n—-r.” By 1968 you can’t say “n—-r”—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now [that] you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about […]

Randpaul

I know all there are scores of too-cool-for-school kids who hang out on Bill Maher’s Facebook page and stoke this little man’s enormously fragile ego. Bill’s always been a big fan of Ron Paul’s, although he’s not too keen on Rand Paul. I can’t figure out why, because their idealogy […]

PaperBagFire

If I was President and Congress was like, “No way we’re taxing rich people and stuff!” I would be so like, “Uh-uh, you’re gonna tax rich people, bitch!” and they would be so like, “Damn! Okay! We’ll tax rich people, just get out of my face!”

Ron Paul isn’t just a fanatic Ayn Rand devotee like the son he claims he didn’t name after her… in fact, that is the least of his shortcomings.

Let’s just let these facts speak for themselves… more to come. First, a few gems from the man who wants access to “the button”; “I have no problem with homosexuality. I have a problem with homosexual acts.” “What happened in America so that mothers and fathers who leave their […]

Romney Perry Frontrunners

Would you rather be pushed off into the sea on an ice floe or hit by a train? This is not so much a literal choice of ways to die as it is a figurative choice for voters in electing either Mitt Romney or Rick Perry.

I was born a Democrat. My parents were Democrats before me. My father cast his first vote at 21 in 1936, for FDR. Four years later, when she turned 21, my mother did the same. She came from a long line of Democrats, going way back to Jackson, I suppose. […]

RICK PERRY GUN

According to Rick Perry, Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional, the Earth is 6,000 years old, women were created from Adams rib, the Statue of Liberty is a demonic idol and the Constitution says that this is a “Christian Nation”.

vote5

Calls for a presidential primary challenger seem to fall into common messaging traps that don’t help progressives on the whole.

Kerryedwards

What’s totally oxymoronic is that Hillary has suddenly been reconstructed as the Great (and White) Progressive Hope.
