Whoops, sorry about the late start for Vox! Hope too see you shortly!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Well I got here just now…..perhaps others have come and gone.
MurphTheSurf3

Hey Murph,!
AdLib 12 hours ago
I got hung up and just opened up Vox!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Hope others will check back in!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Well let’s see if others come on by again.
MurphTheSurf3

How are you?
AdLib 12 hours ago
Exhausted. I was in DC again for the big vote to Open Debate on Repeal/Replace and then for the next three votes. I was in the crowd outside when McCain gave a thumbs down to the clerk of the Senate and the finger to the Majority Leader.
MurphTheSurf3

Wow, once again you are a part of history, very coo1!
AdLib 12 hours ago
And I am paying for it…..
MurphTheSurf3

We were watching live, when they called his name the first time we strained to hear his vote and assumed he was too quiet to be heard. Then we saw him coome onto the floor and watched him on the edge of our seats!
AdLib 12 hours ago
The concerns here about Trump closing the coffers and torpedoing the ACA in practice continues to rise.
MurphTheSurf3

He could do it but if I had to bet, I’d say it’s more fear mongering. I think enough people have told him that he would then be blamed for everything that fails regarding the ACA.
AdLib 12 hours ago
I hope you are correct.
MurphTheSurf3

Remember, he tried to use that threat to force the Dems to vote his way earlier in the year?
AdLib 12 hours ago
Trump claims to be a great negotiatoor, he’s miserable. His only approach is to threaten and that stops working as sooon as people see that’s all you’ve got.
AdLib 12 hours ago
I recall that but I fear that as his feet continue to roast over the open fire of judicial inquiry he will act in greater desperation.
MurphTheSurf3

Threaten and personally bully.
MurphTheSurf3

And his orchestrated, scripted attack on Mueller and the Grand Jury, saying it’s all a Dem conspiracy, is only red meat for the 33% who support him. He and those around him will be in legal hell by next year.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Add in Sessions threats aimed at the “lame stream fake news producing media” have their role here too.
MurphTheSurf3

But I don’t see how one is connected to the other. Shutting down the payments is disconnected from the Russia investigation. And if he actually follows throough on his threat, he’s lost his only negotiating tool on HC.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Identifying possible connections presumes he is a rational actor. He is not. He is Nero.
MurphTheSurf3

I don’t doubt they want to get some punches in on the press but they will only destroy themselves more and whip up more anti-Trump outrage if they try to start jailing journalists. That’s what dictatoors do and from the pushback we’re already seeing from Repubs in Congress, I think we could see a big movement in Congress to undo what Trump would try to doo throough veto-proof legislation. It’s already begun!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Damn my “o” key!
AdLib 12 hours ago
His conversations with the PM of Australia and the President of Mexico show how shallow his rationality is.
MurphTheSurf3

I agree that the GOP are putting in a fire wall, cya legislation.
MurphTheSurf3

But like all bullies, he’s also a coward. He needs to have a weapon in hand to threaten others, if he throws away his weapon, he’s lost his power. And as I mentioned, I think he’ll only empower Congress to reverse what he does, then he’ll be truly impotent for the whole world to see. That is his greatest fear!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Hey PPO!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Hi!
pinkpantheroz

PPO – Hoow about that Trump conversation with Turnbull?

pinkpantheroz

Perfect, Murph. Expect twitter explosion incoming
pinkpantheroz

Murph – It’s a pretty amazing statement by Congressional Repubs! They have forced him to sign legislation agreeing to have Congress be his babysitter on Russia sanctions! And preventing him from being able to make a recess appointment, Repubs are now treating him like he’s already a lame duck with a 33% approval rating. Oh wait…
AdLib 12 hours ago
Re: trump taking credit for new jobs: Doctor said ‘Since Trump’s inauguration, approximately 40,000,000 births have occurred world-wide. Dear Ivanka, daddy isn’t responsible for that, either.’
pinkpantheroz

Good one, Ad!
pinkpantheroz

Saw that Murph, is that just incredible for Newsweek?! I saw someone comment that they thought it could have been from The Onion.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Ad, did Trump actually comprehend what he was signing? If not, he’s really utterly incapable of being Pres.
pinkpantheroz

PPO – Sure seems like the Dem in 2020 could run on, “Let’s stop America from being a laughing stock around the world” or something a little less direct than that, to easily beat Trump. He will have nothing left to run on but lame and exposed lies.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Ad, the redneck element couldn’t give a flying f** about the rest of the world.
pinkpantheroz

I am not here for that long….so I want to pass this along. A friend, a fellow academic, military historian with a specialty area in contemporary tactics and strategy…..his position on North Korea is that the only sure path is to take out the artillery wall in NK facing Seoul, Satellite targeting of the mobile launchers backed up by cruise missiles and tactical nuclear strikes on the embedded nuclear weapon’s sites. He outlined it all. He does not see China as an effective agent in this.
MurphTheSurf3

And Russia’s incentive for messing with our elections may be reduced, now that they see it’s only resulted in things getting worse for them. Cheers to Congres, Repubs and Dems, for passing that bill almost unanimously. Putin despises sanctions, I think it could have the desired effect.
AdLib 12 hours ago
PPO – Think how many people have been killed in the world since January. TRUMP!!!
AdLib 12 hours ago
PPO and Ad…I agree with your thoughts re. the GOP being forced to corral the Prez which creates another set of problems for them.
MurphTheSurf3

PPO – Oh yeah, he knew but he was terrified for his ego of having his veto overridden and looking even weaker (though this makes him look SOOO weak).
AdLib 12 hours ago
Scary scenario, Murph from your friend. but could USA/Sth Korea inflict enough damage to the Artillery caves to prevent mass destruction in Seoul, and are they thinking pre-emptive here?
pinkpantheroz

PPO – That’s why I’m back to my position of noot insulting but not paying any attention to that 33% that blindly follows Trump. They are cultists, beyond reaching, they deserve to be ignored while we focus attention and resources on those who are capable of opposing Trump in 2018 and 2020. They are beyond help.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Hey glenn! Sorry Vox was late tonight!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Soooo, ad, Trump is now officially a puppet? Keep him on the golf course and let the pros in wash get to work
pinkpantheroz

hey glenn!
pinkpantheroz

Hey Ad–glad you told me that VOX was late. Thought my computer was being wonky. How are you?
glenn

Hey Murph, Hey PPO–Interesting take on Korea from your friend. Murph.
glenn

Murph – Must disagree with your friend. We don’t know where all of Kimmy’s weapons are, many are shielded underground and just a few could wipe oout tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people in SK and Japan. This will take brilliant diplomacy, carrots and sticks, to solve. China wants to keep the Koreas divided as does Russia, they won’t help much.
AdLib 12 hours ago
I don’t know whether to be appalled or relieved that trump is taking 17 days off. At least he can’t do any damage, can he? Except for tweets, of course.
glenn

glenn, let him tweet his dick off. More ammo for impeachment.
pinkpantheroz

Murph – The Repubs have gotten too deep in the muck with Trump, they can’t get clean but they can stop before they drown in it.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Doing well, glenn! And you?
AdLib 12 hours ago
PPO–with the “reported” size of his dick, I think he’s already tweeted that off. Now, he’s working on his fat ass, which might take longer! LOL!

AdLib 12 hours ago
Hey Harleigh!
AdLib 12 hours ago
Ad–remember during the election when the pundits said that even if trump was elected, Congress would hold him in check? Finally, some of them are trying to. I must admit, though, that the sanctions bill was brilliant, and the procedure they’re going to use to not go into recess is great, too. This is the same tactic they used to keep Obama from getting judges seated, but if it’s good to use on Dems, it’s good to use on trump!
glenn

pinkpantheroz

Ad….this guy is about as high in the field as one can go….he has been addressing the issue of proliferation addressing the what-if’s of acquisition by powers for whom the unthinkable is very much on the table.
MurphTheSurf3

glenn – I don’t know that people were saying that about a Repub Congress, many thought Dems would take back the Senate. Repubs have been collaborators with much of Trump’s evil along the way but it’s gone way too far, with his de facto allegience to Russia and constant backstabbing. They were fine with his lying and bigotry though.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Did Y’all see thuh Militias threatening to come out in a Civil War? Sorry bu I’m chuckling
pinkpantheroz

brb coffee
pinkpantheroz

Murph – I’ve heard otherwise, that they have offensive weapons in very deep tunnels that are networked around the country. If we can’t be guaranteed of destroying them all, the response would be catastroophic.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Ad–yes, I know that pundits were saying that about a Dem Congress, and that repubs have been willing to go along with trump’s nonsense. However, I think the worm is turning now, and repubs are realizing what a shitstorm trump actually is.
glenn

He said that getting to the underground facilities would require Nagasaki/Hiroshima sized weapons to literally glass over the mountains. As to the artillery wall..yes there will be applied force that will hit Seoul but some vs. many is preferred. China is not acting because it has proven incapable of doing so for years.
MurphTheSurf3

Ad….my colleague discounts that. But even if that were so the damage that a single ICBM with cone mounted MIRV nukes is so great that counting on anti-missile systems is Russian Roulette.
MurphTheSurf3

glenn, and Harleigh…howdy do!
MurphTheSurf3

Murph – So he would propose the US does a nuclear first strike on another country that is very close to China? He doesn’t seem too be forecasting what the blowback would be…especially if, like most who are willing to use military force, he’s wrong about this destroying all their nukes.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Murph and Ad–I’m not at all comfortable with any kind of military action on NK because of what both of you are saying. Ad is saying that we don’t know where all of NK’s weapons are. Murph is saying that we’ll have to have some “collateral damage.” Either scenario is not good for the US, neither in the short nor the long run. And, it certainly doesn’t seem to be that diplomacy will be the answer either. Who knows, maybe NK will be frightened of trump’s strongly worded tweets.
glenn

That last line was absolute snark.
glenn

Ad…China, SK and Japan would have to be in support of the move. He believes that they would be.
MurphTheSurf3

Actually, glenn, Kim COULD be scared of ol’ Mr Unpredictable! No one, like us, wans an insane idiot with a finer on the trigger, but ME=AD should apply, hopefully
pinkpantheroz

Murph–why would China, SK, and Japan be in support of the US bombing the hell out of NK, given that we can’t be sure where all of their weapons are? And, that they won’t retaliate.
glenn

oops!
pinkpantheroz

glenn – Yep, as Trump attacks and blames Repubs in Congress for everything, the idiot has been turning them against him!
AdLib 12 hours ago
anti missile systems don’t work very well at all even under controlled conditions. NK has 1,000,000 standing trained army and millions more in reserve.
Harleigh

pinkpantheroz

Glenn….a quote from one of his papers stands out….”Our personal and historic experience provides ample demonstration that those with nothing to lose will use whatever force they have in the hopes of creating the conditions for a nearly miraculous victory, or, failing that, no victory for anyone.”
MurphTheSurf3

Ad, for once we all agree with POTUS! It IS all the GOP’s fault!
pinkpantheroz

Harleigh….quite so……
MurphTheSurf3

Murph–that quote doesn’t fill me with hope for a peaceful outcome.
glenn

scary words, Murph
pinkpantheroz

We can’t even win in afghan… NK is way tougher
Harleigh

Murph – With all respect, your colleague seems less informed on global politics. SK doesn’t even want THAD there, they want reunification and are anti-war. China’s greatest fear is that NKs will rush over the border into China…their second greatest fear is that Korea unifies and becomes an economic threat. And the rest of the world would be aghast if we first-nuked a coountry, even NK.
AdLib 12 hours ago
Glenn…or me…..The man is a pessimist…..or, as he says, a realist.
MurphTheSurf3

Harleigh–agreed. Not to mention NK has weapons capable of reaching the US.
glenn

Harleigh, NO One has ever been able to outfight or outlast the Afghanis. Don’t know why anyone persists
pinkpantheroz

Murph–He may call himself a realist, but I believe if you start with the premise that war is inevitable, as he seems to be doing, then war is the only “solution” you have. It’s just who has the advantage. I know we have a lunatic for a president, and NK’s leader is not the sanest crayon in the drawer, but I believe we have to come up with something else other than war.
glenn

Ad…SK may want “reunification” but that too is nonsense. The north and south have long been so different that there is no historical memory of unity AND the south’s leadership understands that the north is an economic and social cripple that will drag down the south. It really has nothing to offer. China has that fear but the fear is made no less real by siding with NK. Instability in whatever form will set off the mass emigration.
MurphTheSurf3

And Murph, I doubt China, SK or Japan want radioactive clouds engulfing their countries.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Glenn….I read nothing that provides a pathway to keeping the tense “peace” we now have indefinitel.
MurphTheSurf3

Glenn maybe. their missiles are not too reliable and a nuke of much weight may not get here or go off. their navy is a joke.Going in with troops we would lose tens of thousands. If they were all baggers we should start tomorrow . lol
Harleigh

Ad….they may not want them but a nuclear NK offers them the same but as a result of strikes aimed at them.
MurphTheSurf3

Murph–begging your pardon regarding North and South Korea reuniting, but some of that argument is the same one that was used in Berlin when people were talking about reunification. It would be a much bigger job, and China and Japan would have to help, but it’s a better alternative than all out nuclear war, which seems to be what your friend is proposing.
glenn

I question the actual readiness of the NK grunts. Famine is rife there. Kim rattles sabers to blackmail the West into payoffs with rice and food.
pinkpantheroz

Murph–so you’re saying we should keep the status quo? As long as either NK or trump don’t get trigger happy, that’s fine with me.
glenn

Murph – Agreed, reunification seems next to impossible but that is what the new SK PM and his supporters believe in. They absolutely don’t want war though. China imagines that if there somehow was reunification, it would threaten them economically and as you say, any instability could send a flood of NKs into China so they definitely would oppose any military action by the US.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Harleigh–their missiles may not be too reliable, but do we want to provoke them to find out whether or not they’re reliable?
glenn

PPO they have armed and dug in since 1950 in rugged terrain. it would cost us lots of casualties and the nukes would be secondary.
Harleigh

true, H. Not a pleasant prospect ne way or the other. Just wish we had a sane POTUS.
pinkpantheroz

PPO – Maybe but all I’ve heard is that the military in NK is well fed and very ready to fight.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Ad, my colleague (and most of his associates) believe it is just a matter of time…there is no path. Instability in the NK can be trigger in many ways including rather undramatic ones – like a epidemic, or a collapse in the ration economy- or an attack on the South with the counter-punch to follow. It is an extraordinarily fragile society offering nothing to China….hellfire might be preferable.
MurphTheSurf3

they can level SK without nukes, Japan should be really nervous since they are already self nuked from tokushima?(sp).
Harleigh

Harleigh – The danger is that they have many nukes hidden and if just one isn’t destroyed in an attack…and hits Seoul or Tokyo…it would be a nightmare.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Ad. My colleague concurs…..the core military machine, not the dress ups who march in parades, but the elite are to be taken seriously and they will take the dress ups who are as thoroughly indoctrinated in the leadership cult as any society in world history as cannon fodder.
MurphTheSurf3

ad…..you make the case for destroying the war machine, including its delivery systems.
MurphTheSurf3

no shit ad. the impulse alone with real harm japan.
Harleigh

gotta share this hilarity! Allan H Creasy: Trump should build his wall out of Hillary’s e-mails. No one ever seems to get over them.
pinkpantheroz

Ad – is your position wait and see.
MurphTheSurf3

PPO I saw that! LOL
Harleigh

Murph–and if that instability occurs in NK, there is no way to predict what the majority of NK civilians will do. Or even what the majority of NK military will do. Will they stay loyal to their leader? Will they desert? Will they turn on civilians? There could be a civil war in just NK alone giving SK time to come in and broker some sort of peace, with China and Japan helping. I know that’s a somewhat idealistic “solution” to the unrest in NK, but the point is, if something upsets the regular order of NK, there is no telling what the military or the civilian population will do.
glenn

PPO–good one about the wall!
glenn

Murph – Your collegues seem to have created a self-fulfilling prophecy to justify their support for nuclear war. That’s scary. A responsible nation doesn’t act pre-emptively with the suspect excuse, “Well, eventually they would attack us.” The MADD concept still applies, there is only destruction for Kimmy if he was to attack any country with a nuke and as much as some would like to believe he is completely insane and can’t conceive of the consequences oof launching a nuke, he has been very strategic in his thinking in moving forward with ICBMs. I think diplomacy is inevitable, not nuclear war.
AdLib 11 hours ago
In the most recent past, success in negotiations with NK has involved massive bribery of the ruling class and the military leadership with provisions for them to hold off societal meltdown in the lower ranks. That is working less and less well.
MurphTheSurf3

Well gang…I must leave you to mull this over…I had dinner with this guy in DC last week when I was there and it has haunted my days and nights.
MurphTheSurf3

glen they are indoctrinated and have no independent communication system. they will never rise up.
Harleigh

Harleigh….yes……look at a map of NK at night from satellite….75 percent is pitch black…no power.
MurphTheSurf3

mostly 3rd world or less
Harleigh

Murph -What do you think Kimmy’s goal is in all of this? To start a nuclear war and have NK destroyed as long as an American city can be nuked, he’s cool with that? What your colleagues are missing is understanding motivations. Kimmy wants to protect his “kingdom” and he knows that having nukes has proven to pretty much guarantee safety. I think diplomacy can be pursued, it will take many years but I think it can if the US understands why Kimmy is doing what he is.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Night, Murph!
pinkpantheroz

night guys… i’m fallin asleep! LOL
Harleigh

night, H
pinkpantheroz

Murph–so the higher echelon of the military and ruling class seems to be having a more difficult time holding down the oppressed (for lack of a better word) in both the military and civilian life. Nuking the population does not seem to be the way to bring them over to your side; a different kind of negotiation, such as demanding that the ruling class permit some kind of inspections, lessening of control, or something that the ruling class can do to “save face” while at the same time, making life better for the average North Korean, seems to be a much better prospect than bombing and nuking the hell out of them. Nothing brings a divided society together faster than a common enemy, such as the dreaded US. And, given the propaganda that North Koreans have been subjected to for so many years, it wouldn’t take much to get them united against the US. That is not the desired outcome.
glenn

And your colleagues are very much overlooking the blowback from the US nuking another country. Like the US being nuked after that by some country because tactical nuking has now been endorsed as a thing righteous countries can do. And all the related destruction as radiooactive clouds fill the atmosphere and are spread around the world. Hey, Fukishima radiation made it to the US, nukes would swirl radiation all around the planet.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Tootle Pip from me. Latest topic in OZ? Will we drop the Queen and become a Republic? I’m in the YES column
pinkpantheroz

Ad…MADD only works when both sides agree that there is no condition under which an exchange of fire would be a desire outcome. NK leadership clearly holds that it would be better to create a bonfire that burns all than to accept the demands that come with peace.
MurphTheSurf3

G’night PPO. Try not to drop the Queen too far!
glenn

PPO – I’m all for Republics…just not Republicans!
AdLib 11 hours ago
Glenn….NK has created a mass population that is as close to being mindless drones as we have seen. The elites do not fear them.
MurphTheSurf3

Murph – I think that assumption is very mistaken. Kimmy’s building this nuke program or one reason, to protect himself and NK from being destroyed.
AdLib 11 hours ago
PPO – can Oz maintain COmmonwealth status without the QUEEN?
MurphTheSurf3

Ad, if the radiation spreads all over, Melbourne is in the unique position of having the movie made here 50 years ago! They said of Melbourne then that it was the ideal city to make a movie about the end of the world!
pinkpantheroz

Murph–So the answer to that is we bomb them into oblivion?
glenn

Murph – Consider why Tillerson went out of his way to assure Kimmy this week that we would not try to overthrow him. Because the only motivation Kimmy has for using nukes is if he feels his life and rule are at stake.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Murph, yes, like South africa, Kenya, India and Commonwealth nations
pinkpantheroz

AD…we do not agree….he is building it as a threat to get what he wants and those wants are not just passive ones related to preservation. For that to work the weapons must be inherently offensive..
MurphTheSurf3

PPO: “The Walking Dead Down Under?”
AdLib 11 hours ago
It won’t happen probably until Her Maj. Passes on. Few here like Charles and his Royal Tart.
pinkpantheroz

Murph – But his nukes only serve his purpose as a threat, the moment he used one, his rule and life would end and he knows it.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Ad, ‘From Here to Eternity’
pinkpantheroz

Sorry, Ad, wrong movie!!!!
pinkpantheroz

PPO…..so isn’t the Queen the titular head of the Commonwealth.
MurphTheSurf3

PPO – What if King Charles became a zombie? Then it could be really cool!
AdLib 11 hours ago
Ad….he is setting up first strike capability…..a willingness to go up in flames is part of the ideology.
MurphTheSurf3

Murph–the people of NK may be mindless drones now, but I still think the dynamic changes when war comes. As I say, it could come two ways. The military could say “enough” and overthrow Kim, which would be a bloody mess. Or, as you say, NK has a mass population that are mindless drones. Therefore, if we start dropping nukes, we are not going to be met with cheers. It will only make it worse, IMO.
glenn

Gang, go to go….perhaps we can come back to this again…I have been pondering it.
MurphTheSurf3

Murph – I think that proposition of his mindset is mistaken. He is nt suicidal.
AdLib 11 hours ago
Take care and get some rest Murph!
AdLib 11 hours ago
PPO–Still love the beach scene at the end of “From Here to Eternity”.
glenn

G’nite, Murph. Interesting discussion tonight. Keep pondering.
glenn

Glenn….uprisings require prep or they fail miserably…the purpose of a first strike attack would not be to win them over either.
MurphTheSurf3

On the Beach! Silly me!
pinkpantheroz

PPO – Yes, On the Beach! Great film!
AdLib 11 hours ago
I knew there was a beach somewhere! Good night to all
pinkpantheroz

Ad…..I think that the leadership circle does not seek suicide but they are willing to throw themselves in the flames if necessary. ANd with that……good night for sure.
MurphTheSurf3

I’m following Murph out the door, gents. Take care, and have a good weekend.
