AdLib 7 days ago
It was pretty much an ordinary day for me. My family is pretty spread out. How bout you?
KillgoreTrout

Visited my mom, about 2 hours there and back but not bad. Took her out to dinner, a nice night for all. Still digesting it I think.
AdLib 7 days ago
Hey, have you watched The Daily Show with Trevor Noah?
AdLib 7 days ago
Must have been a big meal!
KillgoreTrout

Oh yeah. We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at home the night before so it was a big eatin’ weekend!
AdLib 7 days ago
No, I haven’t watched it yet. I’ve seen clips, and I think Noah is doing OK, for a newbie. I’m still not used to the Daily Show without Stewart. In many ways, he was the show.

When Aeroplanes first flew, they were flimsy, underpowered and crashed more than often. Then they were used as observation platforms during WWI. Then they armed them and the fighter was born. Then they invented rockets and missiles to attach to take their lethal effect further. All this from a bicycle shop. They also evolved into something good — passenger aircraft, used by billions. Now a new weapon has emerged in a similar fashion, but with incredibly devastating effects. This stealth weapon has been responsible for murder, genocide, suicides and the ability to devastate humankind like no other. Like aircraft, it began as a university test, developed along good lines for the benefit of mankind, then morphed into the carrier of hatred, injustice, bullying, inducing suicide and calls to commit mass murder for no really valid reason. This is a weapon now which can bring down governments, start and sustain wars and cause unlimited misery wherever it strikes. It is our ‘good friend’, the Internet. How sad.

PPO – I would just suggest that the Internet itself doesn’t kill but yes, like any tool, it can be used to help destroy or help build.
AdLib 7 days ago
Hello AdLib, and KT. Ia doing fine this evening AdLib, hope everything is well with you.

KT, so far I’m having one of those another day in America weeks if you get my drift. Hope all is well with you.
monicaangela

Monica – All is well my way. Daughter is off to a school dance, so excited!
AdLib 7 days ago
Wonderful AdLib, High School? Wow, those were the days. Seems so long ago, but I still remember the excitement as if it were yesterday.
monicaangela

Anyone read about Trump making anti-semetic comments to a..get this…Jewish audience?
KillgoreTrout

Monica – Middle school, it’s only the third dance she’s ever been to.
AdLib 7 days ago
Tralfamador KT? Where is that?
monicaangela

OMG AdLib, that’s even more of an experience. I hope she has a wonderful time.
monicaangela

KT – What I heard was that Trump relied on the stereotype of Jews all bargaining, saying that they’re all negotiators.
AdLib 7 days ago
Far, far away, in a differnt time zone in another galaxy! LOL! It’s from a few novels by Kurt Vonnegut.
KillgoreTrout

Yeah, can you believe this twerp? It’s frightening to think that he’s the front runner.
KillgoreTrout

Monica – Yep, at that age, the girls mostly hang out with the girls and the boys with the boys. Which for this dad, is just fine! Though, they do have their crushes and all and some of them are more “advanced” than others.
AdLib 7 days ago
KT – I’m going to write an article on the myth of Trump’s popularity. He has less than 30% of the GOP supporting him, which only has about 30% of the voters in America. So in reality, only around 9% of voters support him. That’s it! But the MSM pound the drums about how popular he is.
AdLib 7 days ago
“Are there any Jews that don’t negotiate deals?” Trump, you’re such an idjit!
AdLib 7 days ago
Good point. I can’t believe he’s made it this far. Seriously. The guy is truly a clown.
KillgoreTrout

Thanks for the vid, Monica. He’s a travelling reality show.
KillgoreTrout

AdLib, I taught and administrated at the Middle Schoool level so I have attended many of those dances. What you say is true, they’re really cute at that age when it comes to the girl/boy separation. I believe it is more fun for them that way, they get caught up on the latest, but believe me every girl knows which boy belongs to which girl, and vice versa.
monicaangela

KT – The best thing that could happen for Dems is to have Trump the GOP nominee, it will be a worse implosion of the GOP up and down the ticket than Goldwater! Repubs and Dems despise him, in a GE he and the Repubs would be torn down.
AdLib 7 days ago
Do you think he’ll make it that far?
KillgoreTrout

Actually, is there anybody that doesn’t negotiate deals? We all do, so, with that in mind, I’d say he said more in that sentence than what came out of his mouth.
monicaangela

We’d never get through life without negotiating some of the time.
KillgoreTrout

I believe Trump could make it to the nomination, and yes it would be great for the democrat nominee and the democratic ticket. Not so great for the country. What would a Trump candidacy say about this nation?
monicaangela

Monica – Cool, so you know this age very well. They do have “boyfriends” and “girlfriends” but it’s kind of a shallow thing, they can’t date and just see each other only at school for the most part so it’s not a problem but had to tell her she doesn’t have or need to have a boyfriend at that age. There are some kids their age who have older brothers and sisters which makes them a bit more advanced about things for their age. Not the best influences.
AdLib 7 days ago
Life itself is negotiation of one kind or another if you intend to live for any length of time.
monicaangela

True dat!
KillgoreTrout

KT – Which Repub can beat Trump? The polls are kind of frozen until the first of the year, those who haven’t been paying attention won’t tune in until after the holidays. Maybe Cruz or Rubio could beat him but they’re both as weak as Trump with most Americans.
AdLib 7 days ago
monica – Well, “the blacks” like him, he claims. I guess “them haggling Jews” like him too?
AdLib 7 days ago
It really is difficult to say right now. Even though Trump seems to be the least fanatical, religion-wise, he is fanatical in other ways. I guess it really depends on the religious right’s vote.
KillgoreTrout

Ad, most of the middle school kids in the school where I taught, used the idea of dating as a sort of group cliche thing. Certain groups, pared off and considered themselves dating within that group. Dating at that age isn’t the same as dating in High School or college. Most kids with older siblings at that age realize it isn’t the same thing as their older siblings call dating.
monicaangela

Everybody like Trump AdLib, just ask him and he’ll tell you so. Don’t bother asking blacks and Jews, what do they know.
monicaangela

monica, I remember it well. I had crushes, but I couldn’t have called it dating. We did have some “spin the bottle,” moments though.
KillgoreTrout

monica – But that’s my point, only about 9% of voters support Trump so if he wins the GOP nom, it says a lot about how that shrinking party that only represents the wealthy and needs to pander to racists and religious extremists has become a complete joke but I don’t think it reflects on America. The fringe party puts up a fring candidate and he will be trounced by the majority of Americans. That says something good about the majority of Americans. And remember, these nutjobs have been around forever in one form or another. Remember the Moral Majority?
AdLib 7 days ago
There really aren’t any good candidates running against Trump in the republican party. There really doesn’t appear to be any good republicans IMHO.
monicaangela

Remember the opposition’s slogan? The Moral Majority is neither!
KillgoreTrout

monica – Great observations about these middle schoolers, right on the money!
AdLib 7 days ago
monica – Even the rapists and murderers from Mexico love him!
AdLib 7 days ago
monica, they’ve gone round the bend…..they’ve made a hard right turn!
KillgoreTrout

Yes KT, I remember those spin the bottle moments, however they didn’t usually occur at School dances. That was more at basement dances or other functions that we sometimes had an opportunity to attend. And even then, it wasn’t something that many girls liked participating in, at least not the girls I grew up with.
monicaangela

I am losing faith in voters in America. I can’t for the life of me understand why Trump is still of interest to republican voters. Think it may be the Media?
monicaangela

Yeah, never at a school dance. I certainly remember “basement parties.” T
KillgoreTrout

What I’m really looking forward to is Jeb Bush’s having to drop out of the race. I can’t wait to see that speech. To quote Cartman from South Park, “Oh the tears of unfathomable sadness! Yummy!”

AdLib 7 days ago
Yep, blue lights in the basement, slow dance music, and boys and girls having a bit of innocent fun. That couldn’t happen today I don’t think.
monicaangela

Those parties are where i was first introduced to some of the best music ever made. Soul, Motown and Rock and Roll! Some great slow dance music.
KillgoreTrout

monica – I’m on a campaign to convince people that most American voters are sane. Is it really unusual that 9% of Americans want to vote for a racist, lying greedy jerk? Aren’t those the job requirements for a Repub Presidential candidate?
AdLib 7 days ago
Wow, that’s what I was just saying, the slow dance music was spectacular, it really set the mood, and allowed you to feel you were getting away with something. I remember the first time I danced with a boy I had a crush on. It was like heaven, until a couple of weeks later when I decided he really wasn’t my type, then I couldn’t understand how I could have allowed him to dance with me. LOL!!
monicaangela

Great minds!
KillgoreTrout

Nixon was a bigot, Reagan was a bigot, there’s a long history of Repubs voting for bigots as their Presidential nominee.
AdLib 7 days ago
Monica – So funny, those teen years can be so wonderful yet confusing!
AdLib 7 days ago
That’s funny Monica.
KillgoreTrout

No AdLib, 9% of Americans wanting to vote for a racist lying greedy jerk isn’t unusual. But then what are the percentages of Americans that plan to vote for Rubio, Cruz, Fiarina, Kasich and the rest of those douche bags…that sends the numbers up astronomically. And, also too, some of them aren’t far from the Trump phylosophy. I’d even go so far as to say they secretely admire what he is saying.
monicaangela

So much great music in those days and so many great artists who are legends now.
KillgoreTrout

Feeling things for the first time, learning about “relationships”, and especially today, with so much texting and Instagramming substituting for learning how to communicate one-to-one, many at this age are even more awkward about things than previous generations.
AdLib 7 days ago
As an old romantic soul, I have to say, that there was a certain innocence that doesn’t really exist today.
KillgoreTrout

monica – About 50% of the GOP is supporting the “outsiders” with Trump getting the lion’s share. 50% of 30% of voters, only 15% of all American voters. Actually, I think that’s a low figure for nutjob voters, I pegged it at closer to 25% in the past.
AdLib 7 days ago
Exactly KT. I also liked dancing the Cha Cha, the Twist, the Chingaling, the Boogaloo, and many other dances that were popular in those days, made popular by the singing groups that made the music. Those were the days!!
monicaangela

Indeed they were. Wow, I haven’t thought of those days in a long time. Refreshing.
KillgoreTrout

KT – But we didn’t know that so many of them would become legends. Sure, the Beatles and Stones we knew were legends but you can’t see the big picture when you’re young and in the middle of great stuff happening.
AdLib 7 days ago
monica – Loved the Cha Cha! And the Twist!
AdLib 7 days ago
That’s true AdLib, this generation isn’t as social as I remember my generation being. We actually played games outside, and sometimes boys and girls played together. Baseball, dodge ball, and many other games. You really got to know the opposite sex in a none commital fashion. Now with texting and electronic gadgets, kids really don’t have the time to actually do face to face communitication.
monicaangela

Quite true. We knew they were stars, but never really thought about them becoming legendary, beyond their time.
KillgoreTrout

Monica – My daughter is very athletic, she played on basketball and baseball teams as the only girl and thankfully, the boys were very cool about that (because she was one of the best players on those teams). So that was a good thing for her.
AdLib 7 days ago
Some of those groups, especially the soul groups I listened to back in the day were legends in their own time. The Beatles were IMHO instant legends, they took the States by storm. I believe I knew they would become even more legendary as time went by.
monicaangela

No doubt monica. The radio’s top ten lists made big stars out of a lot of them.
KillgoreTrout

Excellent AdLib, I was very athletic as a kid too, but then most of us were back in those days. Athletics were our entertainment. I enjoyed playing on teams with boys also, the majority of them became my protectors, and would step in any time anyone boy or girl gave me a hard time.
monicaangela

KT – I hate to think I sound like my parents on this but critically speaking, I can support my view. The lyrics of songs nowadays are so weak, very simple rhyming and storytelling. Compared to the songs we grew up with, song lyrics today seem like they’re written by 10 year olds.
AdLib 7 days ago
AM radio was a lot of fun. I remember calling in and winning albums once.
AdLib 7 days ago
Pop music. The music industry has a lot to do with the decline in quality of pop music. There’s also much more reliance on gadgetry, like auto-tune.
KillgoreTrout

I agree with your assesment of some of the music today AdLib. It is all about getting the music out, capitalizing on sells, and moving on to the next thing. Today music is not for music’s sake, it is more for profit like everything else.
monicaangela

Monica, since my daughter is into sports, we do see a lot of kids and parents involved in sports. But I wonder if the percentage of kids playing sports has gone down, replaced with time spent with electronics, texting, games, tv, etc.
AdLib 7 days ago
Wow AdLib, I did that too. I called in, answered a question about Jackie Wilson, one of my favorites back then and won his album. I still remember the name of the show. It was called Wolf Man Jack’s top 20.
monicaangela

Oh yeah, I remember the Wolfman!
KillgoreTrout

Yeah, Wolfman Jack! He had a syndicated show, I remember it well!
AdLib 7 days ago
I agree KT, music isn’t really played with actual instruments these days…synthesiezers and other gadgets make the music. Also too, singers can’t really sing many of them. They go into the studio and machines manufacture their sound.
monicaangela

And Dick Clark, although he was on TV. American Bandstand!
KillgoreTrout

Here in LA, we had KHJ’s “Boss Radio” with The Real Don Steele. Wow, takes me back.
AdLib 7 days ago
i absolutely hate auto-tune. No talent at all is required of the singer.
KillgoreTrout

AdLib, I can definitely tell you that during the time I was in education, participation in sports went down considerably from the time I started until I retired. Certain groups enjoyed sports, most kids were spectators that went to watch their friends play, or weren’t even interested in sports period.
monicaangela

Monica – So true, so much artificiality in music today. Back when legends were recording in our day, they would literally play a song all the way through in a studio repeatedly and just pick the best take. Real music.
AdLib 7 days ago
I grew up in LA, so I remember KHJ’s Boss Radio, I remember when we would turn on his program, and use it to learn new dance steps. Wow, old times remembered. I’m sure glad I stopped by tonight.
monicaangela

Damn! Now I’m remembering old crushes! Ah, misty, golden watercolo LOL!red memories
KillgoreTrout

I really wish we could somehow allow our children to have the experience we had for just a month or two. No electronic gadgets, just radio and television with three channels, and all the fun you could have in the great outdoors with your friends.
monicaangela

monica – That’s what I was thinking. Too many other distractions that in the end, aren’t a good substitute for sports when it comes to kids’ health. And…studies show that kids involved in sports are much less likely to get into trouble.
AdLib 7 days ago
Monica – I remember as a kid learning The Mashed Potato!
AdLib 7 days ago
Kids need to learn about nature, first hand.
KillgoreTrout

KT – Heh! Yep0, those are some golden days in my memory!
AdLib 7 days ago
Absolutely! Well folks, it’s been nice chatting this evening I’m signing off. Hope you two have a great weekend!
KillgoreTrout

Yep, the mashed potato was really great when it first came out. I remember learning to make just about every dance I learned my own. Had my own special way of doing it. Won lots and lots of dance contest, always danced with my brother during those occasions, we were unbeatable.
monicaangela

Monica – My daughter is less reliant on electonics for fun, probably the sports help and she’s a “people person” but she does have friends who are so wired up, always texting and Instagramming, on the phone or watching tv or playing games, they would be like a fish out of water gasping for air if they had to spend a week camping.
AdLib 7 days ago
Have a wonderful weekend KT!
monicaangela

Cheers KT! See you ;ater!
AdLib 7 days ago

AdLib 7 days ago
Hi Kes!
AdLib 7 days ago
Be glad your daughter likes participating in sports. Also, it is a good thing to learn how to socialize, I always emphasize that with my grandchildren. I also with the help of my son teach them how to spend time away from their electronic gadgets. It isn’t impossible to do so, and I believe they are much better off because of it.
monicaangela

What are we going to do about Gun, God, and Politics in this Nation?
monicaangela

Is Kes here?
monicaangela

I’ve always enjoyed sports so I involved her in them from a young age and she not only enjoyed them but found out she was very good at them. So it worked out very nicely!
AdLib 7 days ago
Kes popped in then disappeared! Hope it wasn’t a ghost!
AdLib 7 days ago
I don’t think anything will change on guns in this country until possibly after 2020 when re-districting could help bring The House into a more representative body. That is, so Dems could take it back.
AdLib 7 days ago
Playing sports offers children more than just physical benefits. Sports typically help kids academically and socially as well.
monicaangela

We have had this problem for many years, even when dems were in charge of the White House, and both Houses of Congress. What will it take for them to actually do something?
monicaangela

Meanwhile, The Repubs will fight harder for more guns and less gun control but I do think the public sentiment is shifting big time to disgust over all the gun deaths. The political support is out there but The House ignores it because they have gerrymandered districts with gun nuts. They don’t have to reflect the will of the people to get re-elected.
AdLib 7 days ago
Are there any sane people in the republican party? How can they for a few measely thousand dollars or two ignore all these deaths?
monicaangela

I do think that if Dems had majorities in Congress and had the WH, it would be different today. Too many mass murders and terrorist acts since then, the public backs it and the NRA is weakening in support among a majority of Americans.
AdLib 7 days ago
I sure hope that if the dems take back the house and we get a democratic president, guns will be their first priority. I have been trying as hard as I can to try to convince people who don’t usually vote, and I know many to please get out an vote this year so that maybe we can put a stop to some of this. I’ve registered a few, but not nearly enough. I’m going to keep trying.
monicaangela

I think the GOP is like a defective car right now, it can’t be repaired. It can only be rebuilt. And Repubs won’t be able to afford to do so until they suffer huge losses and have to rebuild out of desperation. As long as they are competitive, they can’t change because of the fear their core inspires.
AdLib 7 days ago
I think it will be a tough but not impossible hill to climb to get The House back but I am confident we can take back the Senate in 2016. Hey, if Trump is the GOP nom, who knows how big a Dem sweep could be?
AdLib 7 days ago
Actually AdLib, I don’t believe the GOP is the GOP anymore. There have been so many radicals infiltrating that party over the years, I believe it is an organization more kin to the Klan, evangelical maniacs, or some other thing straight out of hell.
monicaangela

I guess we should be trying to help Trump win the repubican primary then.
monicaangela

Well, I’ve enjoyed the trip down memory lane AdLib, but I think I am going to have to leave. Have a wonderful evening, and thank you for the wonderful conversation.
monicaangela

Yep, it is a completely corrupt “party”. The elites used the ignorant and the bigoted to obliviously support the goals of the elite but they are overthrowing the Elite now so the lunatics are running the asylum. That makes it a very narrow party, a true minority party that is only competitive because of gerrymandering and voter suppression. If the Dems can really sweep, it could mean the end of the GOP as a competitive party for decades.
AdLib 7 days ago
Thanks so much Monica, really enjoyed it. And the insights about middle school kids, very helpful!
