This past Friday, the United States outdid itself.  Reactions varied as Justice Kennedy delivered the finishing touches to the end of civilization…

A love bomb went off in the United States yesterday.  Let’s hope the fallout settles on those of our brothers and sisters that harden their hearts to others.

I’m late to the party but let me be the second Canadian to add congratulations! Haters will always hate but, thankfully, their numbers are diminishing as love wins the day.

Mightywoof! So good to see you here! How’s everything up there in the Land of the Sane?

I’m doing well, thanks, Kesmarn! We’re headed for a federal election in 3 months when I hope we get rid of the Kanadian Klown Kar Krew and elect more moderate folks (Go NDP). I’ve had enough of our wannabe Repubs 🙂

I hope all is well in your part of the world??

Fingers crossed that you Canadians can throw out the version of the Tea Party that would love to take over Canada! Best wishes in that upcoming election.

Things are going pretty well here. Ohio’s having a mild summer so far and that’s okay with me! (Feels like I’m in Canada!) Meanwhile Bernie Sanders is surging nicely.

And that’s also okay with me! 🙂

Thank you, Funk, for the compilation. Truly this will go down as one of the great periods in American, and world history — where the mighty United States was brought kicking and screaming into the new millennium.

I am now beginning to see the Right Wing for what it always has been — people frightened of a future where, s Rush so eloquently put it, hateful people are the “new weirdos.”

9 Hysterical Passages From Supreme Court Same-Sex Marriage Dissenters

Great post, funk. Both heartwarming and sickening at the same time.

The smiles on the happy couples faces says it all. The RW frothing at the mouth shamefully using God as an excuse for their hate, is stomach churning. Since when have politicians earned the right to decide on giving or denying permission for personal happiness?

Long time coming and I wish all newly-weds years of the very best that marriage can bring just like the rest of us have taken for granted as a right for far too long.

I’m a lifelong Roman Catholic who disagrees strongly with many old fashioned and biased beliefs by some in my Church. Same sex marriage takes nothing away from me personally, my marriage, nor from my beliefs.

My message to the bishops twittering about the SC decision is; “Let those without sin cast the first stone.”

They are in no position to vilify the sex lives of others after harbouring criminals for decades and ruining so many young lives. Clean up your own house before criticising and judging others. Try following the lead of Pope Francis. Shame on you.

Well done America!

Thanks for posting this.

Kalima, I agree with you on every word you wrote! I’m a fallen Catholic. Pope Francis is setting such a great example for all to follow. I may have to return to the church.
Peace to you and yours.

Hello Nirek.

I didn’t leave the Church, the Church left me. After not being able to marry in my Church because my husband was not a Catholic, I meandered for years until my mother’s funeral when I attended her Funeral Mass and burial. That was the last time I went to Church and I miss it. I miss the peace I felt sitting in a full or an empty Church. There is nothing quite like it and nothing to replace it with. Maybe one of these days I will return just to feel at one with the world again.

Peace.

I totally agree, Kalima with all your observations. Me too! As a non-practicing, but still believing Catholic, I have long espoused a love for the Song, not the Singers! This new Pope ( “who am I to Judge?”) is an utter breath of fresh air. It was so farcical that two people who love and commit to each other could not have that commitment formalized in Law. Many of my gay friends here in Australia are now starting to organize for the same ability here as is now in the US, and I couldn’t be happier for them if they succeed.

Hi ppo. I don’t think that we are ever “lapsed” we just disagree with the Church on many issues as we grow older.

We don’t have to be in a church to pray, we can do that anywhere. Those who attend Mass every Sunday are no better than you or I. We don’t have to confess our sins because we haven’t killed anyone or caused unnecessary suffering, and if we live a good life treating others as equals while extending our hand to those who need it, I think we have done more than many who follow our faith blindly.

All the best with the effort over there, I can imagine with the conservatives in power that it will be quite a fight. Will be watching the progress.

Take care and see you later.

Funk, we all probably have reletives who are gay. I remember my great uncle and his partner coming to my grandparents house at Christmas time. They never showed any outward signs of how they were. They were two of the kindest people I ever knew. Uncle Ken and Charlie were together for over 50 years. I bet they are smiling down at us right now.

This has been a long time coming. I’m happy for my gay friends. Now they can enjoy marriage just like my wife and I do.

A side note , Vermont is the first State that legislated gay marriage. Mass. was the first to make it legal through the courts.

All in all it’s a great time for equality! Now we still have work to do. Women need to be paid the same as men. Many other issues need to be fixed, but this is good!

Thanks Funk for the visual (the happy couples) and anti-cerebral (the RW blah blah blah hate fear blah blah blah)
