• AdLib : Sleep well, CL! Once again, you’ve earned that and a long vacation on a beach somewhere sipping drinks with umbrellas in them! Night!

  • choicelady : OK dear friend – I’m packing it in. The siren call of sleep is too overwhelming to ignore! Have a lovely weekend, stay clear of smokey air, and we’ll talk soon. Be well!

  • AdLib : CL – Heh! Yep, a good policy not to be caught up in the gears of the machinery you put together! I’d call it “Step One”! That sounds great!

  • choicelady : AdLib – LOL!! By August I also should have the health care grant well in hand, mostly driven by others, so I can go back to HOPE full tilt along with union coops and make my focus stronger. I will have to do SOME health care stuff, but I want it to become a well oiled machine with me NOT caught in the gears!

  • AdLib : CL – Right! I forgot!!! The wheels of the legislature turn slowly…and that’s even too flattering!

  • choicelady : Oh – as noted from my conversation with (OK – brain freeze – the woman I saw last week in his office) she recommends we talk AFTER budget and the break which means August. That is very common, and I’m glad she thinks we’re in the rota then. It was VERY heartening. Right now with the May Revise coming, the fights over the increased money, etc., this is a bad time to do ANYTHING. But she was encouraging!

  • AdLib : CL – The thing is, there’s no way to promote the concept of doing something selflessly because giving attention to someone who has done so…completely defeats the purpose!

  • AdLib : Will do CL, you get some rest, you’ve had a very long day! Before you go, any idea on when we might here something from Steinberg?

  • choicelady : AdLib – I DO agree about the selfishness of acting to be seen acting. We ALL want and need support for what we do, but doing it for ONLY celebrity or notoriety is just slimy.

  • choicelady : AdLib – I hate to say, but after getting home so late and having several meetings today, I think I’m packing it in. I’m sorry if Murph arrives after I go – please tell him I say HI if he shows up?

  • AdLib : Night Funk! Get some rest and you have a great weekend too!

  • AdLib : CL – There are still those who can commit to a principle due to principle but in this Facebook age, there are so many Celebrity Altruists who do something just to be able to paint an image of themselves. I learned when I was young that if a deed isn’t done purely for the deed, it isn’t philosophically a good deed. Not to say it doesn’t help someone but if a deed is done for self-gratificati on, it is a selfish act.

  • choicelady : Good night, funk! Hope maybe we can meet on one of these trips to Lummi. I will keep you posted. Keep us informed about your DC trip – sounds GREAT.

  • funksands : Folks I have to retire, I was up way to early this morning. Have a fabulous weekend!

  • choicelady : Sorry – bourgeois.Finger dyslexia is upon me.

  • funksands : Ad, for sure. I think every writer/blogger/t yper worries whether or not something they find interesting is of interest to others.

  • choicelady : AdLib – Yup. All about him. The victim. He will dine out on that story for weeks. Bougeois older guy cuts off precious little him. A good friend, a founder of ACORN, told me yesterday that he worries about younger activists all of whom talk about having to promote their “brand”. They don’t even realize they turned Marxian ‘fetishism of commodities’ on themselves. Brand? BRAND??? What about doing something for others just because it’s the RIGHT THING TO DO? Feh!

  • AdLib : CL – That’s the truth!

  • AdLib : Funk – New ideas are fascinating to me and I think many here.

  • choicelady : funk – Well, PPOV readers are the 2 out of 10, so you’re home free! I look forward to it!

  • AdLib : CL – It is such a roll of the dice with people, some can be so thoughtful and kind and others can be so ignorant and uncaring. Today, was walking to an ATM, 5 feet away, a guy on a bike pedals up in front of me, hops off his bike and stands in front of me. The lady at the ATM leaves, I walk around him to the ATM and guess what he says, “Yeah, go ahead and cut me off.” Yep…

  • funksands : But on this site at 6 of those 8 people will be polite and tell me its wonderful [smiley]

  • funksands : Ad, already in the hopper. I really hesitate writing about something that’s a bit out of the box until I’ve looked at it from every angle. I’m sold. It’s incredibly exciting when you learn something that changes you views about how the world works. I’m exagerrating a little, but it’s pretty cool. Of course 8 of 10 people will find it frightfully boring.

  • choicelady : funk – oh that the library WERE built of the brush he claimed to have ‘cleared’ from the ranch!

  • AdLib : Funk, you were thinking of writing an article about financial matters, how about this?

  • funksands : I think his library is built entirely with reclaimed old-growth brush.

  • choicelady : AdLib – All is revealed! Never realized Hackenbush was a fully related name like that!!! Wow!

  • choicelady : AdLib – I don’t mind the 4th floor so long as there is an elevator! I had my wheelchair bound Dad on a flight and asked one of the security people how to get him down to baggage, and he pointed to the escalator. He thought he was funny. I honestly have rarely been that angry.

  • AdLib : CL Which is why his nickname was Hackenbush.

  • choicelady : AdLib – being practiced hacks is why there were SO good at hacking under Bush!

  • AdLib : CL – To people who have never had to be in a wheelchair, it’s so easy to be selfish. Wait until they find themselves elderly and in need of a wheelchair, are they going to wait at the ends of lines and park on the 4th floor of parking structures? One guess.

  • choicelady : funk – excellent article! Thanks!

  • funksands : Choice, some people simply can’t even manufacture perspective.

  • funksands : And I swear to the Necronomicon that I’ll have my Chained CPI piece done next week. I’ve got 5 articles about 1/3 done and I’m feeling very guilty

  • choicelady : funk – it’s like people who bitch because those in wheelchairs get ‘first dibs’ on the stall. Some people want them to wait – holding up everyone else??? It makes no sense. They are in ‘their’ line for the ONE stall they can use. Again – I’m sure the women I see with wheelchairs would be all too glad to trade places with the whiners.

  • AdLib : CL – The Repubs are practiced hacks!

  • funksands : I also admit getting pulled into studying Modern Monetary Theory over the last several weeks. Absolutely fascinating. Here’s a really great piece by one of MMT’s proponents about austerity. Great article. «link»

  • choicelady : funk – you’re WITH him, you’re responsible for him, and of course you can do that. The sheer exhaustion you and your wife experience trying to keep him even and stable means what we as society can do to help you is little enough, no inconvenience to us, and if it eases your life a bit? all to the good. YOU are caring for him so we, society, don’t have to. Least we can do is help you out. The VERY least we can do!

  • funksands : Choice, the GOP has limited success hacking with knuckles and clubs….

  • funksands : Choice, we’re the same way, but I admit to jumping a few long lines and the TSA over the last several years. Made navigating Disneyland a breeze I’ll tell you.

  • AdLib : I’m hoping so, Funk.

  • choicelady : AdLib – the GOP are just trying to hack you!!!

  • choicelady : I’m so sick of the privileged whining about the few things people with special needs “get”. My Dad had Parkinsons so my folks had a special handicapped plate. My Mom NEVER used it if my Dad was NOT in the car – nor did I when I drove their van. People used to say we were crazy – but WE didn’t need it! Why would we use it???

  • funksands : Ad, everything okay?

  • funksands : could *not* have said it better. sheesh

  • AdLib : Hey sorry folks, computer went a little nutty.

  • funksands : Choice, could have said it better myself.

  • choicelady : funk – I do think you must do what you can. If your kids can get a tiny bit extra due to the autism, it’s small compensation for HAVING the autism! Anyone who bitches? Offer to have your son trade places with them.

  • funksands : Choice, apparently her aide seems to think that we can still get in. Don’t know if she’s just being polite, but I sure would hate to miss out on a chance to visit because of the douchebags in Congress….

  • choicelady : funk! Aren’t the White House tours all over due to sequestration or are they now by request only? I cannot get over having to ask to get into the Capitol. When I was a kid, we just went!

  • funksands : My boys will be 14 and 9, and I think they’re ready. I’ve been emailing Patty Murray’s office to see if they can swing a White House tour for us. Amazing the response the word “autism” can get for you. [smiley]

  • choicelady : funk – yes, I miss him a lot. Don’t know where he went. I wonder if he thought we were not paying attention to his amazing MidEast thread. I admit I’d forget to look way too often. But I do hope he’s well.

  • funksands : Thanks I’ll do that! BTW, I noticed a while back that Khirad wandered off. Hope he’s well.

  • KillgoreTrout : Hello goodbye funk!

  • choicelady : Where’d AdLib go?

  • funksands : Sorry about that, I got booted off. Night KT!

  • choicelady : funk – if you can find the archive, read up on Khirad’s trip – he found amazing things to see in DC. I’ve been there a lot, and he discovered things I did not even know existed!

  • KillgoreTrout : Thanks CL, you too.

  • choicelady : Good night, KT – look forward to the music! Have a good weekend!

  • funksands : Choice good point. I think the family and I are headed back to visit DC this year. That should re-energize me. I haven’t been since I was a teenager.

  • KillgoreTrout : Well Planeteers, I think Ill say good bye for now, and start this weekend’s music thread. After last week’s thread, I think I’ll keep it light.

  • choicelady : funk – there’s at a distance politics which is interesting and then there’s hands on politics which is and can be exhausting. You did the battle royal – takes a lot out of you!

  • funksands : I must admit that I have been going through a pretty serious burn-out on politics. I didn’t think it was possible. I think I’m starting to pull out of it though.

  • choicelady : funk – the sheer cruelty of our educational bigwigs is mid boggling. Petty tyrants who are big fish in their very small ponds. The problem is – you’re all the food fish. NOT how it’s supposed to be.

  • funksands : Choice none of these poor people want to be doing what they are doing. They get told to jump by the superintendent, they jump.

  • choicelady : fun – my husband and I were together 6 before we married, but at least we COULD have married at any point. This is HUGE for my Lummi friends! Now it’s REAL!

  • choicelady : funk – changing expectations is often very useful especially if what you’re doing is kindhearted. It REALLY transforms things. Good for you!

  • funksands : Ad, were you near any of the fires?

  • funksands : That’s great! My wife and I were together 6 before we got married.

  • AdLib : Weather has been nice down here, if a little warm. [smiley]

  • funksands : Choice at one meeting, I shit you not, there were 17 people in attendance. Unreal. I rolled in with coffee and donuts and took everyone a little off guard. [smiley]

  • choicelady : funk – they’ve been together 7 years.

  • funksands : Choice that’s pretty cool. How long have they been waiting?

  • choicelady : Oh funk!!!! Hallelujah!!!! Congratulations on beating the system at least a bit!!! I’m very happy for you!!!

  • AdLib : Funk – All are well, hope your family is too!

  • funksands : Choice, yes! Our strategy, while time consuming has finally worn them down and they’ve agreed to a 2 day a week at the high school, 3 days at his current school. Much easier transition. Thanks.

  • choicelady : fun – my women friends on Lummi are getting married in Sept!!!

  • AdLib : Hey Funk!

  • choicelady : funk – not if *I* have anything to say about it!!! Every test they threw at us we have passed including TOTAL revision of how we account for our work moving from a statewide presentation to a county by county one. It took me four days, 12 hours each, to do that revision but I DID it. This call will be fine – we are going to make clear WE KNOW WHAT we are doing because we’ve done it before.

  • funksands : Ad, how are you? And the fam?

  • KillgoreTrout : that’s what I like to hear! [smiley]

  • funksands : KT, everything here is pretty rosy. It was 80 and sunny today too, so no complaints. Still free pot and gay marriage everywhere.

  • AdLib : CL – Yes, radicals and reactionaries, that’s who the Repubs are. They are not conservatives in any way anymore.

  • choicelady : funk – are you making any progress at all?

  • funksands : Geez, that sucks. This isn’t going to derail you is it?

  • KillgoreTrout : How’s it going in your part of the world funk?

  • choicelady : Funk – the same. We applied for a huge grant to do outreach and education on health care. The annoucement is to come next week – but they just today scheduled a conference call to question our work plan for next Wed. Could they not have figured this out MONTHS ago? They keep shifting the base on us and causing us lots more work!!!

  • funksands : Hi KT!

  • funksands : Well Choice, we are in the stretch run of our ongoing battle with the school district. Last meeting is the 23rd. That’s occupied a lot of our attention.

  • KillgoreTrout : Is funk in da widget?

  • funksands : You?

  • choicelady : funk – so what’s neeeeewwww?

  • funksands : ….busy.

  • funksands : Craaaaaaazy…

  • KillgoreTrout : One can only hope he will be voted out next time. I think it’s a possibility.

  • choicelady : funk – how are you?

  • AdLib : CL – That is outrageous! I know Kasich is up in the polls, getting credit for things he shouldn’t like the growth in manufacturing THANKS TO OBAMA SAVING GM! The Dems shouldn’t be so short sighted. 2014 is over a year away, so much could change.

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, I call them that all the time now. Especially when I am “debating,” one of them.

  • choicelady : Yeah funk!!!

  • funksands : Okay, I’m here.

  • choicelady : AdLib – aren’t they reactionary? I always thought that was the extremist term for slavering conservatives?

  • KillgoreTrout : Good points CL. It’s a brave new world.

  • choicelady : KT – that’s helpful, but where oh where is the opposition to him for Governor?

  • AdLib : KT – The GOP has hit the ejector seat button on “conservatism” , they are radicals now and should be called that.

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, there is a good sized effort now, in Ohio, to keep Ksick from defunding planned parenthood.

  • choicelady : KT – back to the issue of Beaver Cleaver: that rosy 1950s suburban life is NOT coming back. For one thing, it was predicated on a strong manufacturing base and union presence. It was strengthened by civil rights and the expansion of affluence into the Black community. And the GOP killed it all off. So yeah – living in the past sort of requires KNOWING what it is that made it so “nice” that no longer exists.

  • choicelady : AdLib – Unfortunately at this moment, Ohio Dems have given up challenging Kasich. Cannot explain that.

  • KillgoreTrout : I know one of traits of genuine conservatism is to keep the status quo, but today’s generation just doesn’t understand the the status quo has already changed and is still changing. They want to go back in time when they ruled supreme. That’s just not possible any longer. Change is part of life.

  • AdLib : I really hope Dems win back a lot of governorships and state legislatures in 2014. They can do that and Repubs have proven themselves to be so callous and downright crazy. That will help to further disintegrate the GOP.

  • choicelady : AdLib – the racist support is growing in fervency (if that’s a word) but diminishing in numbers. They are playing to a dwindling crowd.

  • choicelady : AdLib – on the left, broadly speaking, there is huge and very public disagreement. One rarely sees it on the right save in primaries. I’m thinking that this – the immigrant is scum v the immigrant is essential – is the first real open and public division, though, that said, they have been very careful NOT to attack each other by name.

  • AdLib : Or the racist supporters in the hand.

  • AdLib : CL – The GOP is caught in a situation where, if they don’t display racism, they lose what remains of their base but if they do, they lose national elections. So, being conservative, they go for the bird in the hand.

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, their ideology and old time social beliefs just won’t allow such revelations. They’re basically stuck on stupid.

  • choicelady : AdLib and KT – do the GOP NOT understand that you cannot dismiss people as scum AND encourage them to vote for your candidates? Why in the world is there such a disconnect in their calculations?

  • AdLib : Thanks glenn and hope all are yelling “G-O-O-O-A-L” tomorrow morning thanks to yours!

  • choicelady : glenn – Soccer awaits, so of course you need rest! Take care!

  • AdLib : After the anti-Latino racism helmed by Jim DeMint in that “study” and the anti-Latino hatred espoused by Repubs who are trying to scuttle immigration reform, even if it passes, I don’t think Latinos are voting Repub in the foreseeable future. So the Repubs are just cementing themselves deeper into minority status as a national party.

  • choicelady : Good night, food! Sweet dreams!

  • glenn : AdLib–Hope your child hits one out of the park! Or at least gets on base! Good luck!

  • foodchain : Kids and games; it’s a wonderful life

  • glenn : FC–yes, we’ve had our share of those this season. I think the cold weather is finally over, though!

  • AdLib : Night glenn! Good luck to your soccer player! We’ve got baseball tomorrow morning!

  • KillgoreTrout : sweet dreams glenn.

  • foodchain : glenn, hope it’s warm. cold soccer games–ooohhh

  • glenn : I’m calling it a night, too. Early soccer game tomorrow! Season’s almost over.

  • KillgoreTrout : Have a great weekend Sabreen.

  • glenn : ‘Night food chain.

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, they’ll also scream that those “librul,” college professors will turn them into communists/socia list/Marxists.

  • AdLib : Night FC, sleep well!

  • foodchain : night Sabreen

  • foodchain : Me too, 5:30am central comes early. I’ve really enjoyed being with you all

  • glenn : G’night Sabreen.

  • AdLib : Night Sabreen, have a great weekend!

  • AdLib : Racist slurs shouldn’t even be recognized with an argument for why they’re wrong. Lets consider the intelligent “scholar” who wrote that piece that Latinos have low IQs. Latinos who were employed yesterday are employed today but after writing the garbage he did, he’s out of a job. Who looks to have the lower IQ? Isn’t it the guy who wasn’t intelligent enough to know that using racism as an argument against immigration reform would get him fired?

  • glenn : CL–Or that they used affirmative action!

  • choicelady : Sabreen – be well! I may not be far behind even with a West Coast time. Hope to see you next week! Sleep well!

  • choicelady : food – shhhh! Don’t let the RW know that Latinos are entering college faster than whites! They’ll scream that INFERIOR people are taking their kids’ place!

  • glenn : CL–Exactly. And I’d really like to know when the tests were given, what he used for his sample and control groups, and how many tests were in the sample. But we will never know that information.

  • Sabreen60 : Well folks, I’m calling it a night. I had a very long day. Take care everyone and hope to see you later.

  • choicelady : glenn – nothing like administering an IQ test with culturally specific references!!! I can just imagine trying to pass one about Spain or Mexico!!! I’d be considered a marginal person!

  • glenn : FC–Yes, and their high school graduation rates are significantly up.

  • choicelady : SAbreen – yes indeed. The Bell Curve is the more recent self justifying racist polemic before this latest round. I always like Steven Jay Gould’s assessment of these studies where he posited that time and again, we skewed the data so we could prove superiority, but that there are far more variations within races than between them.

  • foodchain : glenn, didn’t I read somewhere that more Hispanics are entering college than whites?

  • KillgoreTrout : Thanks CL. Same with you.

  • AdLib : FC – We lost in 2010 because we were still in the depths of the Bush Economic Disaster and the Repubs ran on fixing the economy by cutting the deficit. Obama and Dems were screwed by the timing and the hugeness of the damage by Bush and Wall Street, we’re just now re-surfacing and the American Public is too fickle and impatient…now they see what that results in.

  • KillgoreTrout : Too many people think that if English is your second language, and you don’t speak it well, that you are not intelligent. WRONG. This is one reason a lot of older immigrants don’t really bother trying to learn English.

  • glenn : CL–And as someone who has administered the Weschler (IQ) test, it’s culturally biased, so no wonder Hispanics who haven’t lived in this country for a long time didn’t do well.

  • Sabreen60 : CL, It’s also the Bell Curve all over again. It’s what I meant by ‘same dance’.

  • foodchain : CL, GOP doesn’t change, seemingly ever

  • choicelady : KT – “Too soon older, too late wiser”? Not in your case.

  • choicelady : Sabreen – I hollered with glee at that “study” on racial profiling and ranking because in the 1890s that was the modus operandi of anti immigrant forces – who used those EXACT categories and rankings against Eastern Europeans, Mediterranean people, Jews, Slavs. This is IDENTICAL to those self serving “science” studies of a century plus ago. One pediatrician wrote that from his observations immigrants from Eastern Europe and Italy were dangerous threats to US culture, were ‘scum’ (his term) that would ruin the nation. That was written by a doctor in 1892 about the people who are writing those things NOW! Same methodology, same conclusions, same bigotry, same idiocy.

  • KillgoreTrout : Awe shucks CL. Unfortunately it’s only a recent development [smiley]

  • AdLib : Sabreen – With Jim DeMint heading up the Heritage Foundation, who’s surprised that they stake their whole anti-immigration reform push on an outright racist whose published on White Power sites. DeMint has just dealt that fraudulent “think tank” a mortal blow and I couldn’t be happier.

  • foodchain : KT, I wish he’d called it “junk food talk”.

  • KillgoreTrout : For sure FC. The Iraq war was pure PNAC philosophy put into action.

  • glenn : FC–Agreed. Hope Dems are still motivated by 2014 to get out and VOTE. The r/tp’s just keep doubling down on stupid, yet they DO keep winning local elections.

  • KillgoreTrout : That’s exactly it Ad. Carlin used to call it using “soft language.” Language that sounds nice, but blurs the truth.

  • AdLib : CL – Either that Pew poll is an outlier or the dozens of polls before it are. I’d have to say it’s the Pew poll.

  • foodchain : Ad, and we lost 2010 because we didn’t talk at all. Poop

  • choicelady : KT – Wisdom lies in knowing that personal likes and dislikes are probably not terribly relevant to politics when the choice is SO CLEAR. Wise man, you are.

  • foodchain : KT, me too–I did vote for Gore and pretty sure Iraq War wouldn’t have happened

  • AdLib : CL – The “We want a big tent” crap was just another obvious bit of propaganda to manipulate the Latinos and women who voted against them. As you say, their real philosophy is, “We lost in 2012 because we didn’t deceive the public well enough We have to do a better job of lying!”

  • Sabreen60 : CL, somehow I really don’t think the GOP cares about messaging when they accept the racist based thesis that Hispanics are inferior mentally to whites and that their children are inferior and that their grandchildren will be inferior. Same dance – just added new partners.

  • KillgoreTrout : CL I would have voted for him, given the alternative. I just never really liked the guy.

  • choicelady : AdLib – some demented Pew poll yesterday showed people though the GOP would do better on gun reform than Dems. Whatever this is – it is NOT in sync with the nation. That poll needs to go back to the drawing board! Pew is better than that!

  • glenn : AdLib-flying like a lead balloon!

  • foodchain : Choice, Rachel was listing all of the horrors of Bush’s terms and there are a lot of awful things. You forget how many, from Plame on down

  • KillgoreTrout : FC, I can see that.

  • AdLib : I haven’t seen one poll since 2008 that showed Repubs being more trustworthy than Dems. In fact, all the polls for the last 5 years show growing disrespect for the GOP. They are in a nose dive and all they can think is that they’re flying more swiftly than ever.

  • KillgoreTrout : One of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

  • choicelady : KT – exactly. If your entire world view is predicated on false assumptions, that is the inevitable outcome. Living by the Lie never works.

  • glenn : FC and KT–Gore always reminded me of a sleazy used car salesman. My apologies to all honest used car salesmen/women.

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, that’s exactly why I think they suffer from some collective mental illness.

  • choicelady : KT – Yes, Gore may be flaky, but in 2000 he was MUCH the better choice. In fact the nation PICKED him. The SCOTUS overturned the public.

  • foodchain : KT, snarky is how Gore seemed to me

  • choicelady : AdLib – isn’t that exactly what they do? They claim they want to expand the party’s base, but they keep lying and refusing to face reality, and then, when it does not work, they circle back and start over. It is mind boggling that they cannot see what they’re doing and just think they have poor ‘messaging’ instead of incredibly awful substance.

  • KillgoreTrout : I never really liked Gore. I don’t know what it is really, he just always seemed a little flaky to me.

  • foodchain : glenn/Cl; if we wrap them in foil and turn up the heat, we could have shake and bake. That should fix them for a while

  • choicelady : glenn – and then you can just roll it up after baking and throw it away. I think you have a wonderful idea going here!

  • AdLib : glenn – So true! Also, the Repubs are victims of their past success. They’ve always been able to lie and bamboozle the public, they’ve taken for granted that if they repeat the identical lies enough and use enough corporate money and media to impress it on the public, the “suckers” will always be convinced. They still don’t understand that the cumulative effect of all the dishonesty has destroyed their ability to successfully propagandize so they keep trying to do what they did in the past. When it doesn’t work, they just think it’s because they need to lie more forcefully. Mitt Romney was the culmination of the GOP Lie Machine, he showed no conscience at outright lying about anything and everything to get the power he wanted and the Repubs are clueless that he represented them so perfectly and permanently.

  • KillgoreTrout : Yes, rationality rays and truth beams! They just bounce off.

  • Sabreen60 : CL, it’s always easy to sit on the sidelines and call someone a failure when you don’t have to risk a damn thing yourself.

  • glenn : CL–it was kind of a “half-baked” thought–I was hoping you could “bake” it some more–using RW, of course.

  • choicelady : KT – so the tinfoil hat made of Reynolds keeps the alien rays OUT and all thoughts worth having, too? Perfect for the RW.

  • foodchain : glenn, lol, good point. We’ll have to work to heat-from lies-seeking drones

  • KillgoreTrout : Like the one Frankenstein’s monster wore?

  • choicelady : glenn – There IS a foil in fencing. I’m pondering your suggestion!

  • glenn : FC–please be careful with those statically charged drones. I live in the south and I might be standing next to one of those morons, because they’re the only ones who can see the foil hats.

  • KillgoreTrout : Of course. Reynold’s is purer aluminium so it blocks out more rationality rays.

  • choicelady : Sabreen – that’s a great article, thank you. I saw the bottom though that Gore says Obama has ‘failed’. Sorry – lack of showmanship is not failure.

  • glenn : CL–isn’t there a foil in fencing? Maybe a foil fence?

  • foodchain : Maybe we cold have statically charged drones to set off lightning strikes on foil caps

  • choicelady : food – VERY funny!

  • choicelady : Well, KT – if it’s an hallucination, it’s TOTALLY reliable of course!

  • foodchain : CL,I know just happened: kinda popped out

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, I think it was an hallucination! [smiley]

  • glenn : Ad and CL–Yes, all that good economic news. And what are the r/tp’s focused on? Ryan whining because President Obama hasn’t “reached out” to him enough; Cornyn whining because President Obama hasn’t appointed the federal judges he hasn’t given him names to appoint; and of course, Benghazi! Gotta love ’em!

  • choicelady : food – oh, that is a three groan pun!!!

  • choicelady : KT – did your anonymous source come to you in a dream…..?

  • Sabreen60 : PBO has also done more environmentally positive things than he gets credit for. This is a short but good article by Jonathan Chait about what may be on the horizon. «link»

  • choicelady : food – but foil is mobile. It would be hard to define a ‘line’ though it COULD define a “are you with me or agin me – let your foil stand and deliver!” kind of mindset.

  • foodchain : Ad/CL, and even the sequester can’t stop him: FOILED AGAIN–sorry

  • choicelady : KT/AdLib – I have a very dear friend who was, for years, an Assembly of God minister but who became a walkaway some years ago. This is one of the wisest women I know with her eyes WIDE open! So it’s not impossible at all for that kind of change to occur. She is progressive now on ALL issues, because she began to see the hurt and pain her religion left behind and wanted to give a spirituality that healed and helped instead. Bachmann COULD change if her power and money did not rely on her NOT changing!

  • KillgoreTrout : Ha, very astute glenn.

  • AdLib : CL – Yes, forgot to mention that, Obama has presided over a reduction of the deficit too! How is that not touching all the bases economically? Obama will be seen by history as being an incredible President who fought a Cold Civil War against Repubs and The SOuth while accomplishing so much. Just imagine what he could accomplishe with a Dem Congress in 2014!

  • KillgoreTrout : An anonymous source tells me that Reynold’s wrap works the best.

  • foodchain : Choice/Glenn: foil could be the new Mason Dixon line

  • glenn : AdLib–The r/tp’s never had any ground to stand on. They just thought if they piled up enough bullshit, it would look like solid ground. Now that it’s spring and the bullshit is melting, they’re sinking quickly!

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, they just make shit up. And the stuff they don’t make up they get from their RW talking heads. They’ll pull anything from their behinds if they think it will hurt Obama and the “liberuls.”

  • choicelady : glenn – OMG – I think you’re on to something important here! Renolds Wrap to stop the RW!!! Freaking BRILLIANT, glenn!

  • AdLib : Bachmann will have to stare into her own crazy eyes for the rest of her life wondering why she was victimized by “them”. Amusing…

  • glenn : CL–I think Reynolds wrap works better because the initials are the same as right wing. Just my opinion, though!

  • KillgoreTrout : I guess anything that could not speak would be good.

  • choicelady : AdLib – AND! AND! AND! Obama has paid off a small part of the NATIONAL DEBT!!!! That’s better than Clinton did!

  • choicelady : KT – do the rays get deflected better with Reynolds or will generic do? Always wanted to know.

  • AdLib : On another front, look at the huge revenues the US Treasury got last month! On top of falling unemployment and record highs in the stock market, how do the Repubs have any ground to stand on anymore?

  • KillgoreTrout : Ha Ad, it never really mattered before! Unless one was wearing their Reynold’s Wrap beenie.

  • choicelady : KT – oh, that would be so mean to platypi! I’d turn her into a rock. And not a rolling stone either.

  • foodchain : Ad, yeah, crazy Magyars

  • glenn : KT–Well, bachmann’s fake eyelashes do resemble a platypus tail.

  • foodchain : KT, no spine is terrific. That should be a whole new game genre

  • AdLib : FC – They’re so cute!

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, I think he would. If I were God, I’d turn her into a Platypus!

  • choicelady : food – wow! Vizlas are SUPER energetic! You have definitely cut yourself an ambitious course!!!

  • choicelady : glenn – that’s SUPER, Mr. Whiner! He should be sent out!

  • AdLib : KT – Bachmann is at the end of her rope, she is going down for breaking campaign finance laws and bribing that Repub leader in IA so she could win the straw poll. SO what she says doesn’t matter anymore.

  • glenn : Sabreen–well of course Dowd said the same thing. Have you heard anything new from a republican/tpart ier since President Obama took office?

  • foodchain : Ad, Vizla pup here. Trying to keep in shape in my old age, Hahaha

  • choicelady : KT – If God actually is a sentient being with intentionality, he’d cut Michelle down to size as the first order of business.

  • KillgoreTrout : The GOP would be great at Limbo. They have no spines.

  • Sabreen60 : PBO busted Dowd out at the WHC dinner, but she came back the very next day and said practically the same stupid thing.

  • choicelady : AdLib – you MUST put your pup on Word which automatically capitalizes! Then, of course, teach her the shift bar function. She will learn!

  • glenn : CL and FC–when I was teaching, we had an “imaginary friend” called Mr. Whiner. We had to send him out of the classroom on numerous occasions.

  • AdLib : FC – Love the GOP Limbo Party!

  • KillgoreTrout : Bachmann is up to her old tricks again, saying that 911 and Benghazi were a result of God’s wrath. Fricken lunatic.

  • foodchain : KT, should we start a GOP limbo party: How low can you go!!

  • AdLib : FC – Totally understand, I too have a 55 lb pup (golden retriever) leaping up, knocking my typing hands and pressing keys! And she still hasn’t learned to capitalize the first word of sentences!

  • foodchain : And I like a good whine/wine, but they should be based on inforamtion

  • choicelady : food – In the rare moments I see her on TV, I cannot abide her since she whines. NO good columnist WHINES.

  • Sabreen60 : CL, Maybe [smiley]

  • foodchain : Maureen Dowd has become a bitter person; puckered in her thoughts

  • KillgoreTrout : Sabreen, every time I think they can’t go any lower, they do.

  • choicelady : food – forgive me if you’ve said, but is he a new acquisition in the family? What kind of dog if that’s at all obvious?

  • KillgoreTrout : Good point FC.

  • AdLib : Sabreen – Yes, that one woman seems to be wanting to blame everyone but the terrorists for the murder of her family member. I doubt many other relatives are as misguided as her.

  • glenn : KT–you’re right. I should have specified–old white men.

  • foodchain : Choice, he does seem to be a happy pup!

  • Sabreen60 : So true KT. They will never be able say their hypocrisy goes only so far.

  • KillgoreTrout : Great point glenn. It’s the beginning of the end of the Good Ole Boys club.

  • AdLib : glenn – I saw that and the family member seems just blindly hateful. However, I’m sure a preponderance of relatives could agree that the GOP using their murdered relatives as political footballs is offensive.

  • choicelady : food – we wondered!!!! Goooood dog. Didn’t know dogs could type!

  • foodchain : KT, except that those folks signed on to a duty in dangerous countries. Those kids–not so much. It’s what’s wrong with every equivalency of the GOP’s arguemnts

  • choicelady : Maureen Dowd really is not a wise person.

  • choicelady : Sabreen – the president called the families of ALL the people at Benghazi. Whoever she was, it cannot have been that, unless she’s a second cousin thrice removed…

  • KillgoreTrout : Funny, how the same people who trashed Obama for using the Sandy Hook victims and the families as political props, use those 4 killed in Benghazi as political props.

  • choicelady : KT – you’re entirely right about that. From 9/11 on, gays, prochoice folks, and minorities were blamed for everything. Next they’ll blame us all for the ending of Leave it to Beaver.

  • glenn : KT–I really do think it boils down to what Bill O’Reilly inadvertantly (sp.?) admitted the day after the election. He said something to the effect that white people are losing their power in this country, and that it’s a real shame. That’s what they can’t stand–that their time for power is over!

  • foodchain : Ha, I think that was my 50 lb pup jumping on my lap!

  • AdLib : And how about Maureen Dowd blaming Obama for not being enough of a leader to make the Repubs go along with what he wants? Is she high or what? Obama can make racist Baggers want to help him? Insanity is all over the political spectrum.

  • foodchain : ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++

  • foodchain :

  • choicelady : AdLib – the families of Christ STevens and Glenn Doherty did come forward and demand the end to their loved ones being political footballs. It stopped for a time – and is back. Same with the Newtown families – the right says it’s OBAMA doing it, but they all state clearly they are there to speak for themselves, and then the right pretends to CARE and uses them in OPPOSITION to the families’ own positions.

  • Sabreen60 : AdLib, I was switching channels and I saw the very last of some woman on CNN decrying the fact that PBO, Biden, Clinton or no one else had called her to offer condolences. I wonder if anyone else saw her and if so, was she talking about Benghazi?

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, it’s always the gays, the pro choice people and minorities that are blamed. The GOPers just don’t know what a mirror is for.

  • AdLib : Food – That would be great, even the emoprogs don’t know how our government works, they think the President is a dictator and can pass any law if he really wants to…and should be attacked for not doing so.

  • foodchain : Dmmmmnnn, broken Bulls lose!

  • glenn : Ad–Unfortunatel y, foxmadeupnews did find a family member who blames Benghazi on Hillary. I didn’t read the article, but that’s what the headline said, anyway.

  • AdLib : CL – I think some of the family members of those who were killed should step up publicly to decry the political games being made over their family members’ death instead of focusing on bringing the killers to justice and preventing this from happening again. Just like the Newtown parents have. And think about it, what’s preventing this type of thing from happening next week? What have Repubs in Congress done in all this time to prevent another attack? They just don’t care.

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, I think the fact that they can’t seem to understand what they are doing wrong leads me to believe they have a collective mental health problem.

  • Sabreen60 : Colbert-Busch probably would have lost anyway, but she did run away from President Obama and “Obamacare”. Now if she chooses to run again, will Dems support her?

  • choicelady : KT – you’d think the GOP would begin questioning a God they made up who keeps screwing with them!

  • glenn : AdLib–and don’t forget they seem to be doubling down on conspiracy theories since President Obama’s re-election.

  • choicelady : glenn – we’re back to that book we discussed, “When Prophecy Fails” about the devotion of the UFO cults in the 1950s. The more they are proven wrong, the STRONGER their belief grows. Cannot explain it.

  • KillgoreTrout : Like I said CL, He’s quite the kidder. He tells 4 candidates they should be president, in the same election. That’s pretty funny.

  • foodchain : And, if I missed it earlier, how about those CO2’s!!

  • AdLib : KT – It is a kind of derangement that the Repubs are reflecting, everything they do is a done as hateful and vengeful against “their enemies” instead of doing anything for the people. I find it more childlike than straight up insane, the tantrums, the lies, the gall, like Damien clones.

  • KillgoreTrout : I do too glenn. They way they cling to a detrimental ideology tells me it’s about more than just Obama. They hate poor people with a vengence.

  • glenn : CL–I just wish I had the certainty about anything that republicans/tpar tiers have about everything! No matter how many facts get in their way, their certainty never wavers!

  • foodchain : Choice, Vitter–DC Madame, Sanford-+-affair . Elliot Sptizer–quit, Weiner quit. Doesn’t work very well that way. Dems should get arrogant too

  • choicelady : food – you mean! GASP! You want people to know how democracy and Congress WORK???? Well you have a fertile field on BOTH sides of the political spectrum! Even the far leftie EmoProgs haven’t a clue.

  • choicelady : KT – God is NOT a Republican! That fiction exists within ONLY the GOP mind.

  • KillgoreTrout : The whole state of SC worries me. What’s wrong with those people?

  • choicelady : food – as long as you say God forgives you for you sins, you’re still a good ol’ boy. Weiner, a Jew, won’t say that, so his “sins” are unforgiven. That is why KT is correct – they HAVE been taken over by a serious obsession.

  • foodchain : Ad, I’d like someone to say; THE HOUSE WRITES LAW, THE SENATE AMMENDS; THEY BOTH PASS, and then the President signs.

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, I take it that’s the republican god? He’s quite a kidder.

  • glenn : KT–I think you’re right. I used to call it President Obama Derangement Syndrome or PODS for short, but I think it goes much deeper than that.

  • foodchain : Glenn-how about it! Weiner-good that he is only posted pretty boy pics which is a lot different than taking govn’t $$ to go to Argentina

  • AdLib : FC – I really wish the Dems would run a national camapign in 2014, having Dem candidates saying in concert, “Elect Dems to take over the House and retain The Senate here are exactly what bills we will pass.”

  • choicelady : glenn – Yup. Sanford claims God has forgiven him. I claim it’s not his call.

  • choicelady : AdLib – many a Dem has erupted in fury at the craven politicizing of the Benghazi deaths. One of them was someone I knew – was on MRFF’s advisory board – and the disinterest in his death is galling. Only ROMNEY tried to pretend he had met and remembered Glenn – and Glenn’s parents knew it wasn’t true and had to demand Romney stop pretending he cared!!! These people are outrageous!

  • glenn : FC–Speaking of Clinton, I don’t ever want to hear another word about his “morality” after Mark Sanford’s election this week.

  • foodchain : Thanks Ad

  • KillgoreTrout : I truly believe that the majority of republicans, both in and out of power are mentally ill. They’ve been taken over by a serious, detrimental obsession. I’m not joking either.

  • AdLib : Whoops, didn’t delete the space, here: «link»

  • foodchain : Ad, the GOP have been trying to stop government esp with B Clinton. HE spent as much time defending non-government issues as he did on governing

  • Sabreen60 : Hey CL, yes he is. I love his humor.

  • AdLib : FC – No need to add the “v” here, just paste the link as is, and it appears like this (this is actually your link) «link» ch?v=PtBy_ppG4hY

  • choicelady : Sabreen – I signed up and hear RM Mike – what a hoot!!!

  • Sabreen60 : glenn, Stephanie Miller plays a lot of Rocky Mountain Mike’s stuff. I think he’s so funny and relevant.

  • glenn : Ad–Sometimes I see so many similarities between terrorists and the right wing that it’s scary. Not the least being that they are doing everything to bring our duly elected president down by any means–lying, cheating, and calling for armed insurrection!

  • foodchain : KT, Hahaha, it’s better than Newt. That would be pudgy, pastey whitey on the moon.https://www .youtube.com/wat ch?v=PtBy_ppG4hY

  • AdLib : And despite the Repubs’ Benghazi Circus, the public doesn’t and won’t care because it means nothing, changes nothing, covers up nothing. A scandal without a scandal.

  • glenn : Sabreen–had to check it out. Loved it– “Motel Fox we’ll leave the right wing on for ya.”

  • KillgoreTrout : FC, is that a song About Newt Gingrich? [smiley]

  • AdLib : Hey Sabreen!

  • AdLib : Just to back up for a sec, what is an outrage is that NONE of the GOP hearings on Benghazi are about going after the terrorists who committed the murders of the four people they claim to care about, all they care about is what was said afterwards on Sunday tv??? That is an outrage!

  • foodchain : Hey KT\Hey Sabreen

  • Sabreen60 : Ooops. Should be RIGHT-Wing….

  • foodchain : Choice, it’s depressing because it’s true and not spun for the moment. It’s life day to day

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey FC! LOL!

  • choicelady : Hey SAbreen!

  • choicelady : KT – and everyone – SPLC is excellent, but it is VERY depressing news they offer. I think for people such as us it’s imperative we know but it’s also important to focus on the good. I know we’ve had this kind of hate before, but honestly – it’s incredibly demoralizing to see it rise again.

  • glenn : Hey Sabreen!

  • KillgoreTrout : I know the righties HATE the SPLC. Almost as much as they hate the ACLU!

  • glenn : foodchain–okay, thanks for clarifying. [smiley]

  • Sabreen60 : Hi Folks. Thought I’d get right to Rocky Mountain Mike’s Ring-wing Alert – Benghazi «link»

  • foodchain : Glenn, I think so…..

  • KillgoreTrout : Thanks CL. I hadn’t known that, but it sounds like a good research tool.

  • foodchain : KT–I have loved the music. Somewhere I’m putting in–again_”Whit ey on the Moon” lol

  • choicelady : foodchain – they are indeed! I’ve been a supporter/suybsc riber for years, and because of my own highly checkered past, I actually email them with updates and get direct info from Mark Potok. They are quite responsive.

  • glenn : Foodchain–so you’re not here, even though you’re here?

  • foodchain : Hey Choice!!

  • foodchain : The Southern Poverty Law Center people are amazing.

  • choicelady : Hi foodchain!

  • foodchain : I’m sorry that’s what: wish I was here and not doing otherwise–altho ugh the otherwise is pretty sustaining

  • choicelady : KT – if you are interested in getting way too much info on this, you can subscribe to the daily/weekly updates from southern povery law center.

  • choicelady : KT – the Southern Poverty Law Center folks who keep the records do say there are more RW extremists (and a few not RW so much such as Nation of Islam Black supremacy) than ever before. You’re NOT imagining this.

  • AdLib : Hey foodchain!

  • glenn : FoodChain–good evening. How are you?

  • foodchain : Greetings

  • choicelady : AdLib – it’s not clear the EMT actually did anything at all, but yes, the investigation into the cause of the disaster HAS definitely taken a turn toward intentional criminal action rather than negligent criminal action. Big and very scary difference!

  • AdLib : glenn – Sad but true until today though, they do have that EMT arrested now and I wouldn’t be surprised there’s a connection as CL predicted.

  • glenn : CL–There you go–that’s who they are! Are they still wearing masks, or will they just wear blinders for the investigation?

  • choicelady : glenn – I think it’s the Texas Rangers. You know the LONE Ranger who once had been part of that?

  • AdLib : CL – Meant to give you a shout out tonight for calling the explosion in West, TX as possibly domestic terrorism! They’ve got a bomb making loon in custody now and I think your concerns may be proven prescient.

  • choicelady : glenn – these multijurisdictio nal investigations often lead with the locals, but the technical info is most likely provided by ATF even if it’s behind the scenes. The notorious inter-agency rivalries are really a thing of TV dramas in cases of this magnitude. They need one another.

  • glenn : Someone asked me on HP what the difference was between the Bangladesh factory collapse and the TX building blowing up. The difference? The owners in Bangladesh were arrested!

  • KillgoreTrout : Lot’s of crazies these days, for sure. I used to think it was just that reports come much faster, from everywhere, but I’m beginning to think that there are definitely more crazies now than ever before.

  • choicelady : All – I want to make VERY clear that the dates in April – 17-21 – all have significance around Adolph Hitler that then involved Waco, OKC, Buffalo’s Spring of Life – the right really has a focus on this time frame.

  • AdLib : CL – Boehner is proving that Repubs are solely about propaganda, voting AGAIN against the ACA instead of negotiating on the sequester? Most Americans are having this image of the GOP seared into their minds, they will not win the Presidency for a long time and they will lose statewide offices in purple and blue states.

  • glenn : CL–I thought it was the TX mounties (or whatever they’re called) and the TX Department of Safety that was heading the investigation. Is the ATF still involved? I know they were in the beginning, so are there now 2 separate investigations?

  • choicelady : KT – the very latests (she said smugly) is that the Feds ARE investigating the West,TX explosion with an eye to criminal action. And an EMT was arrested today for having a pipe bomb. Whether the two are connected is not at all clear, but the ATF folks would NOT be pursuing this if they did not have evidence at the site. The EMT is a different issue. All very scary if you ask me. I actually don’t WANT to be correct about that.

  • glenn : CL–Yes, of course. Another vote to repeal Obamacare speaks to leadership–righ t off the cliff.

  • KillgoreTrout : After the Boston boming, the righties were saying the same thing, that Obama was afraid to call it a terror attack. Before any real info had been gathered. Bunch of cowboy idiots.

  • choicelady : AdLib – AND! AND! AND!!! Boehner is going to have ANOTHER vote to dismantle health care reform so the NEW people in his Congress can vote against it!!!! Doesn’t that speak to leadership and everything????

  • glenn : CL–I know. Romney was probably wishing Crowley was one of his “underlings” so he could enjoy firing her!

  • glenn : KT–I know. I think Romney did crap his pants, by the look on his face.

  • AdLib : CL – Yes but the Repubs need to have their scandal and coverup so they refuse to recognize that Obama called it an act of terror the next day. HOW COULD IT BE A COVERUP WHEN HE SAID WHAT HE WAS SUPPOSEDLY COVERING UP THE NEXT DAY??? And that was BEFORE Rice went on the Sunday shows!!! This is such bullshit and you know what, most Americans couldn’t care less, they need jobs and a better economy…and they have seen the Repubs try this for 4 years, they don’t see this as important.

  • choicelady : KT and glenn – that was a wonderful moment when Romney got hoist on his own petard! There was some photo of him from the FRONT as he looked at Candy Crowley with such fury as I’ve rarely seen – he was DONE! How he thought he’d recover from that I will never know.

  • glenn : CL–Progress is good–good on ya!

  • KillgoreTrout : glenn, I thought Romney was going to crap his pants then. Too funny.

  • glenn : KT–Naw–it was “please proceed, Governor.” Love that line!

  • choicelady : glenn – it’s not what you’d call conservatives in a conventional sense but more like Blue Dogs if you were to characterize them. But yes – we are making progress, and the state gov’t reform group that’s moving into economic development has embraced the entire idea of cooperatives even though their honorary chairs for the conference are GEORGE SCHULTZ along with Leon Panetta. If we can get that kind of support – we’re doing SOMETHING right!

  • KillgoreTrout : I remember, during the last presidential debate, Romney tried to say that Obama refuse to call it a terror attack, thats when Obama calmly looked at romney an said “continue.” Romney was stumped.

  • glenn : CL–Thanks–I was just trying to find a word for Cornyn and that “popped” into my head!

  • AdLib : And what is crystal clear from emails is that it was a top aide in the State Department who wanted to change the talking points so the Repubs wouldn’t use it for campaign propaganda. She shouldn’t have done that but is not the proof in the pudding? All the Repubs are doing is using it for propaganda to attack Hillary now (it used to be Obama but now that he’s not running again…).

  • glenn : CL–You know, I’m glad to hear that you have some conservatives working with you. I was never against private enterprise doing something–I just wanted them to do something. If government doesn’t create jobs, and the DJIA is up over 15,000, and corporate profits are the highest ever, why isn’t private enterprise doing more? That’s a rhetorical question. I like the idea of it starting from the ground up, rather from the government. It should be an idea that both progressives and conservatives can get behind.

  • choicelady : ADLib – Obama DID say, the day AFTER it happened, it was terrorism. How could you know BEFORE when in fact, the uproar around the Muslim world against the FL preacher who burned the Q’ran HAD created uprisings and led to the Benghazi strike as part of that – they took advantage of the moment. And remember – the security forces for the Benghazi facility had been CUT radically by the GOP funding cuts for the State Department. They have to take some responsibility here!!!

  • choicelady : glenn – ‘assidiot’ – NEW WORD destined to survive! LOL!

  • AdLib : The Repub talking point is to say that Benghazi is worse than Watergate because no one died in Watergate. First of all, the talking points debacle came AFTER the attack, didn’t cause it yet these assholes keep inferring the two are intertwined. SO if they had said it was a terrorist attack from the beginning, the attack wouldn’t have happened???

  • choicelady : glenn – the movement is really just beginning, but I’ve had a lot of support from some pretty cool people! I think everyone is looking for a ‘better way’ than what we do now, or the conventional idea that the government should create jobs. We have more luck pursuing this with conservatives than with knee jerk “progressives” who are wedded to a ‘new New Deal’ and nothing else.

  • glenn : CL–Arrogant is not quite the word I would use. And, even SOB is more of a hit on his mother. I think the better word would be assidiot. That’s just my opinion, though.

  • AdLib : glenn – Yep, same here, was amused at Cornyn whining about judges and after all his time in the Senate..he didn’t know that he was supposed to propose them first??? Damn, how ignorant can an operating human being be? The GOP is sure trying to define that.

  • KillgoreTrout : Doing well folks. Hope you are too.

  • choicelady : AdLib – yeah, those mansion thingies really make fires something policy folks can’t ignore! Nature can no longer take its course!

  • glenn : CL–Wow–sounds great! Are you making progress or is this just the beginning?

  • choicelady : Hey KT! How are you?

  • AdLib : Hey Killgore! Evening!

  • choicelady : glenn – I’d not heard that from Cornyn! Arrogant SOB!

  • glenn : Hey KT–how are you?

  • AdLib : CL – Never been any fires in my area, the hills in Thousand Oaks/Malibu burn regularly, that’s the way that environment is, happened even before the Spanish were here, back when it was just Native Americans. Though I doubt they had too many mansions in the Malibu hills at risk.

  • choicelady : glenn – the seminar was on communities becoming engaged to promote employee owned businesses – ESOPs, cooperatives, union cooperatives – so that we can rebuild low wage and manufacturing jobs in CA with a different set of principles. Capital would become subordinate to labor rather than the way we do it now, commodifying labor and acting as if it’s chess pawns instead of human beings.

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey Planeteers!

  • glenn : CL–My “fave” this week was Cornyn of TX complaining that President Obama has not appointed federal judges in TX. And why hasn’t he appointed them? Because Cornyn hasn’t given him any names.

  • choicelady : glenn – I just saw her do that on the talking points. The slavering hate of this president is nothing short of amazing.

  • AdLib : glenn – Yes, Dems on that committee were complaining earlier in the week that the Reubs had all kinds of info they wouldn’t even share with Dems on their committee…so of course, they could try to dump it all on Thursday and make a big propaganda splash. Much ado about nothing!

  • glenn : AdLib–glad to hear you’re safe. CL–how was your seminar and what was it about?

  • choicelady : AdLib – yes, the seminar went very well. But it’s a long slog back to Sacramento from Oakland, and even with light traffic, it took some time.

  • choicelady : AdLib – fires in Southern CA always scared me more than they do up here. I can’t explain that – we have more open land. But maybe it IS the density of residences. Anyway – stay safe pleases?

  • glenn : So, I heard on Rachel Maddow that the “new smoking gun”–the “talking points” emails had been given all along to Congress so they knew of them way before today, and all of the additions and changes. Is anyone else reporting this?

  • AdLib : seminar

  • AdLib : CL – The seinar went well?

  • AdLib : CL – Thanks for asking! The fires only affected us the first night. Poor folks who are closer have had a lot to deal with.

  • choicelady : glann and AdLib – I’m pretty darned OK. Tired – did a seminar in Oakland last night, got home around 11 pm and have yet to wake up!

  • AdLib : CL – Yep, I’m here! Benghazi, done ghazi.

  • glenn : CL and AdLib–I’m doing well too.

  • choicelady : Nope – here he is! Hi Adlib – how are you faring with the new Thousand Oaks fires?

  • glenn : Hi CL–how are you?

  • choicelady : hi glenn! How are you? I think AdLib may not yet be back here…

  • AdLib : Hey Glenn! Doing well, and you?

  • AdLib : Hey CL!!! Me too!

  • glenn : Hi AdLib–Benghazi molehill to you, too! How are you?

  • choicelady : Benghazi Molehill!!! (Glad it’s THIS administration – the NSA would be at my door under W’s regime…)

  • AdLib : Don’t forget to say “Hi!” or “Benghazi Molehill” when you arrive!

  • AdLib : Vox Populi, our live chat about the week’s events begins tonight at 7 pm PST. Hope to see you then!
