Weekly Address: Honoring Our Veterans for Their Service and Sacrifice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=–QxAtXZJpQ
Cheers folks for all the great links. I was truly hoping that you would add what you could to help Vets. My chest swells with pride to think their are such great folks on this site who really care.
Have you ever gone to a Veteran’s Day Parade?
Where we live is sort of rural – but Apache Junction is our mailing address – and it’s pretty much small town – there’s not a lot here – no malls, no shopping centers and really, there’s not even a downtown.
But they do a fine Veteran’s Day Parade, and we went years ago with our collapsible chairs, but we never stayed seated for long.
We stood and applauded every unit, every color guard, and the tanks and all those in uniform.
On our walk this morning, my husband mentioned that there were going to be jets doing a fly-by, and we heard them and stopped to watch them, and I cried.
There’s something about Veteran’s Day, The National Anthem, and seeing our military that makes me cry, and I’m a pacifist anti-war person.
But it’s a feeling of pride or something and gratitude.
This is a picture of my father from World War II –

To all service members and veterans –
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
I don’t know how to post pictures, and I clicked the thing to do it, but they don’t post.
The pics are on FLIKR and I copied the URL, but they don’t post.
I’m really proud of my father and it’s too bad.
But he was awarded a Silver Heart and Purple Heart and I wish that you could see his photos in uniform, because I love him and he was my father.
Javaz, there are many on here that do and will help you. I don’t either. But, I am proud of your Dad, too. Thank you for trying to share with us.
j’avaz, FLIKR photos are troublesome. They have to be either public or converted to a publicly used format such as a .jpg or .ping before they can be shared.
Sure all the time in my home town.
My favorite picture of all time is two of my uncles by happenstance meeting up in France after the Normandy invasion. I tear up every time I see it thinking of the sacrifices they made to literally save the world from tyranny.
I’m a bit late but my sentiments are the same as they have always been. I thank all the veterans and those who gave their lives, for their help in liberating Europe. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for everything. My father told me that he met some great Americans on the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion, he remembers them fondly.
Happy Veteran’s Day to all our servicemen and women retired, on duty, or in our memories.
Thank you, sincerely, for everything you have done and will accomplish. The country is proud of you.
I try everyday to make your sacrifice worth it. Forgive me if I fail on occasion
Damn, I’m glad we went with the Eagle as our symbol and not the turkey as Ben Franklin suggested. The eagle looks great in front of the flag and the turkey, cooked and stuffed looks wonderful on the table.
Thank you, KQ, for the post. My Dad was 4F because they wanted the farmers to stay home and produce. He also was a heavy equipment operator and helped build barricades and camps here. All my mother’s brothers (5) served and game home. Dad told me he always felt bad that he hadn’t gone. But we all service the best we can and he did do his part. In times of war and in peace, it takes a nation with the best in all areas to make it great. The middle class sustains the rich. The rich forget. The poor serve in war. Balance is needed. The poor need help, the middle class need jobs, the rich need to think beyond their gates. Great we were and great we can be. And, Veterans we all are.
KQ
Another thing folks can do is support them year round by supporting the kids. I was buying school supplies for kids at Beale AFB when I lived in Rocklin. This is the organization I give to year round.
