And now for something completely different…

…a GOP debate!

The GOP candidates debate tonight on CNBC at 5:00pm PST/8:00pm EST.

This may be a very interesting debate, not due to the tired talking points they will all spout but due to the changing currents and momentum in the GOP field.

With the ongoing sexual harassment scandal, Cain looks to be going down for the count as even an outside possibility for the nom so a position to the right of Mitt Romney in the Tea Party’s musical chair is opening up. Who will step up in this debate to take that seat? Will Perry make a comeback? What about everyone’s favorite reptile, Newt? Is it Rick Santorum’s turn at the front of the Crazy Parade?

They may come out throwing elbows tonight to grab that anti-Romney vote so move all the breakables from around your tv and join us here for an evening of yelling at the tv and live blogging!

ROMNEY AND GINGRICH-
HARDER TO HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG….

The General Verdict by the Media Punditry
—Romney was self assured and confident
—Gingrich was well spoken and provided complex answers….

Thanks for the in-depth analysis

BUT THEY WERE BOTH EITHER LYING, OVER-SIMPLIFYING, OR STALLING ALMOST EVERY TIME

Their positions on the auto industry re-financing (shouldn’t have done it) while standing in the state of Michigan was outrageous…

Their positions on the housing collapse (let the market rule- no restructuring, no refinancing, needs to collapse) was incredibly calloused and insensitive….

Their failure to recognize the nature of the global economy as one of deeply entwined national markets, government deficits, trade etc. was foolishly nationalistic or just plain pandering to the crowd. ….

Neither mentioned the sources of the recession unless they could pin the blame on Obama or his allies- nothing about the monster deficit from the Bush Years that became the mega-monster debt of the Obama years….

Nothing about the dangers of too little regulation, or supervision….in fact cries for even less of both…

ND what about the suggestion that we should start a currency and trade war with the first place holder of the nation’s debt, China (followed by Japan, he UK, OPEC, Brazil, the Caribbean Banking Consortium).

Romney’s business career was one of grabbing up companies, tearing them down to their most profitable core and then selling them.

Gingrich has never been in business (except that of marketing himself through his pointless faux-net company).

FINALLY….Did you notice that the entire group seem to be both blind and deaf to the real needs of real people in the middle and lower class?

The only people they addressed are the job makers, the business community, the investors…..they are the only ones they actually see or hear.

BTW nothing shows conservative enthusiasm is waning more than RedState not even doing an open comment story on the GOP debate. I’m telling you folks the GOP voters are not happy at all with these candidates.

The final take from the CNBC live blog:
By: Mark Koba
Senior Editor

http://www.cnbc.com/id/45120551

9:58 PM/ET: So the question for the pundits will be who won or lost. There was no clear loser, but if there’s a clear winner it may be Herman Cain, for now. In light of the allegations, he seemed to find support among Repubs and that’s going to help at least until something else happens. If he does falter, than Mitt Romney seems to have the heart as a second choice of this crowd.

HUH?

SallyT

I think a winner is going to be Jon Stewart. He is having so much fun with Cain’s press conference yesterday, I can’t wait to watch him tomorrow on the debate and Perry!

KQµårk 死神

It sounds to me the clear winner in all these debates is President Obama and the Dems. The more these characters debate the more absurd they sound compared to the standing president. If I was the Repug strategist I would tell them to scale back the debates.

My new prediction is the the GOP nomination process will be virtually over in a month when Romney wins a plurality of the vote in most of the primaries. As bad as Romney is, he’s the only candidate not shooting himself in the foot all the time. The GOP will be satisfied with his ridiculous attacks on Obama like he does not want business to make profits when they are making record profits.

I don’t know if anyone has posted this here, but it’s pretty funny – the debate in 68 seconds and the meltdown by Perry. I didn’t watch the debate, but the 68 second video told me all that I need to know.

Sabreen, this is hysterical! Thanks! I couldn’t bring myself to watch tonight, but like you, this told me everything I really need to know!

Okay guys, what else did I miss besides Perry completely losing it?

I was monitoring our twitter account when this one happened and wow, did they go wild. After the last 10 days of his denying the sexual harassment charges he comes out with this? “Princess Nancy”? Why didn’t he just say “that bitch Pelosi” and reinforce what many can see, his disrespect of women?

Bito, he certainly showed his colors to me with that. That is why I wish Nancy being on the Daily Show tonight had taped after the debate. Would be interested in her comment.

Romney has never flipped or flopped on women’s reproductive rights, right!

This is Mitt’s 2002 Planned Parenthood questionnaire.

Ah, Multiple Choice Mittens!

He always selects “all of the above”.

atdnext

Just wait 24 hours, and Mittens will agree with you… And in another 24 hours, he won’t!

escribacat

Wow. Who could trust someone who flops that wildly? He’s catering to the teabaggers.

SallyT

Romney has flipped flopped so much he doesn’t know which way to turn now that will put his own butt to the rear.

Romney also recently said when questioned by Huck, if he would support the “Personhood” bill that states life begins at conception. Romney’s answer “ABSOLUTELY”. It’s on video and Rachel showed it tonight.

KQµårk 死神

Yup and now his camp is spinning that he did not say that and did not like the wording of the referendum.

atdnext

Ha. And to think, he always sought Planned Parenthood’s endorsement when he ran for office in Massachusetts! But as soon as he realized he couldn’t be the GOP nominee for President if he were “too pro-choice”, he then became “Conservative of Conservatives” and declared he was “always pro-life”. And this year, he went beyond just outlawing abortions. He also declared he wants ALL forms of birth control illegal and criminalized!

I wonder what the folks at Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts think of Mittens now…

The moderators were good, but the format still fails. There needs to be more time for following up and holding feet to the fire.

Also, I say do away with the stoopit partisan audience.

17 more GOP debates? I dunno that my liver will hold out.

escribacat

I thought that 17 number was a joke….isn’t it? 😯

funksands

Nope. (cue evil laugh)

Night all, I have had enough of the GOP for one day. Sleep well everyone

SallyT

Night, Susie. Sorry though, the GOP doesn’t last just a day. They will unfortunately be around tomorrow. Get plenty of rest!

escribacat

Sweet dreams, if possible after that!

kesmarn

G’night, Sue. Maybe taking an Ativan will prevent those pesky GOP nightmares. “Which departments am I going to eliminate again?…Help meeeeee….Uncle Ronnie Paul….saaaave me…..!”

atdnext

I typically find an evening of phone banking does wonders to heal me after watching a boatload of crap like that. 😉

atdnext

“I have had enough of the GOP for one day”

So let’s please, please, PLEASE (!!!) make sure we don’t get them for four long, dreadful years.

SueInCa

I could never do a GOP debate. I would spend too much time asking for explanations of their wacky ideas, then taking a bottle of adavan to calm myself down.

escribacat
Member

Be sure to bring enough for all of us, Sue.

SueInCa

Hell I am bringing the whole pharmacy

KillgoreTrout

That would surely work. After taking Atavan, a person could be sitting in a burning building and wouldn’t even care! I used to call “so whats.”

SueInCa

Wow my daughter has some, I am gonna take one lol

KillgoreTrout

It might be just the ticket after tonight’s debate!

funksands

The next debate the audience will boo the moderator if he/she asks Gov. Perry ANY questions. They are nothing but loyal.

KillgoreTrout

I think the GOP has gone into a debate overdose. The more debates they have, the dumber each candidate shows themselves to be. They should be trying to hide these cretins as much as possible!

funksands
Member

KT, only 17 more to go. How much new ground do they think they’ll cover? I predict zero.

KillgoreTrout
Member

Man, the GOP should keep these dunces as far from the limelight as possible. They really are showing their ass to America, and it ain’t pretty! 😉

Shortly after tonight’s debate?

LOL, thought so, KT.

KT, that never gets old does it? 🙂

KillgoreTrout

Not when the GOPTP is concerned! LOL!

escribacat

Ouch!

atdnext

No, no, no! These GO(o)Pers need to keep debating. We need to hear MORE of their insanity and stupidity! Americans need to be constantly reminded of the G-O-TEA’s complete lack of interest in any sort of sound governance.

funksands

Its really not fair to the other candidates when Gov. Perry breaks out the extra-large knuckles.

SallyT

Well, Gov. Perry, this debate has wrapped you up like a Mummy. They are just waiting for the sarcophagus to arrive to ship you home to Texas.

escribacat

He’s finished.

invient

yes he is… that would be hilarious if I were not from Texas.

KillgoreTrout

Perry, “throw me a bone here, will you guys?” Lights are on, but no one is home!

escribacat

Wow. It’s even worse watching it the second time! He’s a disgrace and an embarrassment to the nation.

SallyT

Cain, “Europe is suffering from the same thing we are suffering.” Yes, Cain, they are…..GOLDMAN SACHS!

Weirdwriter

Has there ever been a dumber slate of party candidates???

escribacat

I’ve never seen anything worse. I mean, Rick Perry is a half-wit. I can’t believe the guy is governor. And they’ve all obviously been instructed to stick to their talking points instead of actually answering questions.

MurphTheSurf3

In Texas…. The Lt. Gov. functioning as President of the Senate, which has five oversight committees which do most of the governing at the state level. He is a front, just like Bush.

escribacat

Murph — he reminds me a lot of Bush. The same personalities.

MurphTheSurf3

He does, but dumber….imagine that.

KillgoreTrout

I agree, but it IS hard to imagine!

KillgoreTrout

Well, ecat, Bush was governor too. That’s pretty telling!

SallyT

Escrib, I bet Perry wishes he had stuck to his claim to skip debates.

KillgoreTrout

Hey WW. That is an excellent question. I don’t think there has been. These folks are dumber than a bag of hammers! So is the audience who kept cheering them on.

escribacat
Member

KT, Haven’t all the audiences been really obnoxious for all the debates? Who are these trolls anyway? Booing the gay soldier, cheering the electrocution. Disgusting.

KillgoreTrout
Member

I think it’s the same place Jerry Springer get’s his audience. There must be a warehouse of degenerates somewhere in a secure location. Rent a misanthrope from US!

bito

WW, Let me think…no! 🙂
