AdLib : EM – That’s my point, I think the Dems and Obama completely turned the Class Warfare BS against the Repubs, they lost that propaganda war. And they’ll lose this one. Sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand and refuse to deal with terrorists, now is a perfect time to do that and make them pay the price.

ADONAI : I don’ think history really matters anymore. You could show people how things have worked for thousands of years, and what policies have failed and succeeded time and time again but it won’t matter. This is really what George Washington warned us about. Political Parties dividing the nation and one Party basically destroying the place to advance their narrow agenda.

AdLib : The Baggers’ view is, “We give them a bill and if they don’t sign it, it’s their fault!” They have blind faith in their propaganda but don’t factor in that Obama has a bully pulpit and far more trust from the American People than they do. He stands up and explains thier unwillingness to do as all Congresses have before, approving FEMA funds without cuts, and they will lokk guilty and lose. Slimy bastards think they’re smarter than they are.

Emerald1943 : Bito, they actually want to abolish FEMA, never mind cuts!

bito : They want to trade FEMA funding for a green autos jobs funding.

Emerald1943 : Adlib, the President has made some good points in his speeches about “class warfare” and the people love it. They are not fooled one bit.

AdLib : EM – They may be betting on Dems being afraid that they will be blamed but the more they try to push that BS, just like the Class Warfare BS, the more it turns back on them.

Emerald1943 : Adonai, you might think they could come up with something that the public would not see the need for as we do with FEMA. Katrina is still too fresh in people’s minds.

AdLib : AD – It’s not FEMA, it’s Baggers. Baggers don’t want FEMA to prove government is needed AND they have a simple-minded dogma of “No money can be spent without cuts!”

Emerald1943 : Adlib, well let’s just hope it has the same results this time. They really are out of time to get this done if they are going to recess next week.

ADONAI : Why FEMA though? After everything that has happened the last decade, why FEMA?

AdLib : Em – They’re barely literate! As the saying goes, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Baggers don’t learn, hence, they’re thrilled about doing exactly what sunk Repubs in Newt’s era.

Emerald1943 : Adlib, you would think they would have learned from Newt’s history…but then, I guess they don’t read history!

AdLib : Em – I feel the same way. I don’t want the economy or people to be hurt but too many people are open to electing a Bagger President, suffering may be the only teacher they learn from.

Emerald1943 : Adlib, while I don’t want anyone to get hurt by this, I am almost hoping it happens. That should wake up the rest of the people who haven’t been watching!

AdLib : Em – Just playing around. FEMA would have to provide help and funds to all states and areas according to its guidelines.

AdLib : I do see a possibility of a government shutdown and no deal. The Dems seem fed up with compromising and the Baggers have no capability for compromising. Imagine how the dynamics of 2012 would change overnight if the Baggers succeeded in shutting down government…whi ch is their dream.

Emerald1943 : Adlib, I don’t know how that works. Are the funds just sent to the state?

AdLib : Em – I do like the idea of a bill that requires the pols from a district simply to ask for FEMA funds to receive them. Then, that’s on the record!

AdLib : EM – Google’s search engine crawls sites to get info for searches. Go to google and type in “Planetpov”, you’ll find even our newest articles listed there. We get a good deal of traffic from people who do a search on Google and one of our articles comes up. We see Google crawling only because Vox Populi shows who’s on the site at the time, Google isn’t categorizing our Vox Populi chat though, only articles and comments.

AdLib : I think Obama has accomplished more huge things for Americans than any President in recent memory. That isn’t in conflict with the proposition that he was under a misapprehension for some time that the Repubs could be honestly bargained with. Personally, after the Stimulus fight and dishonesty by the Repubs, I thought he should have accepted that as representative of who they are and how they’d conduct themselves. DeMint said publicly that they wanted HCR to be his Waterloo and Rush said at the outset that they wanted him to fail. Again, I think Obama understandably had trouble believing Republicans would destroy America rather than be out of power. Due to that, he is in the difficult position he’s in today. Had he accepted this in his first year, he might not be as damaged by much that’s happened.

I do think Obama at base, believed in the potential and did his damnedest to change the game. Now, the game is really threatening the lifeblood of the nation and he’s decided enough is enough.

AdLib : I’ll take a minority position here and say that it wasn’t Obama having a long term strategy, I think he earnestly believed he could bring Repubs and Dems together over core American issues. He just took a long time to realize it was futile and the Baggers made it crystal clear to him this summer.

Sabreen60 : Thanks Chris: I understand and agree with you. However, the polls I saw blamed the President for the debt ceiling debacle. Maybe if the same questions were asked now, the outcome would be different. Anyway, I definitely agree with you that he had to be a compromiser – even if it pissed off some folks on the left who didn’t understand. I never wanted him to come into office with guns blazing. I wanted him to try to work with the Repubs. He did attempt that and they slapped or kicked each of his cheeks. So now the gloves come off.

ChrisR266 : And all: I do have the deep belief that there is a large, reasonable and centrist right population in the electorate who do at base understand the social contract. AdLib : Chris – I think that Obama’s nature is to seek consensus and I also think he believed his mandate was to change the tone in DC and bring people together. I respect him for his principles on this, I wish it was possible and supported him on it for a while but I do think he was a bit too committed to that concept and the reality that the Repubs would not do anything to help the country, an idea that he could probably not imagine a politician having, is something he just wasn’t recognizing. If he didn’t play nice, he would be called an obstructor and worse. He took the risk of being the compromiser because he looks less worse to people out in the center when he’s trying to compromise. After two years, he’s essentially made the case that He’s tried, and the GOPTEA obviously hasn’t. He can now attack with both barrels, knowing that GOPTEA behavior can no longer be explained away by anything but raw spite and reckless obstruction. He’s laid out a pretty fair plan. They’re imploding. Not a bad situation.

AdLib : Michael Moore proposed a questionable theory about why corporations are hording their $2 trillion, he says they know an upheaval is coming and so are stockpiling money in preparation. I don’t agree, I think that’s a bit much to assume but it was an interesting thought.

Michael Moore was on KO saying that he thinks that there is a powerful dissatisfactio9n bubbling under the surface of the nation due to all the corporate dominance and suppression of what the public wants…and if it’s not addressed soon, something may cause it to erupt all across the country.

He made a really good point. Are we still upset when there is no question of guilt, like with the guy in Texas who killed James Byrd?
