Who are your favorite guitarists? What guitar solos are the most unforgettable? Today’s Friday Music Thread is all about music that features that most versatile of popular music instruments, the guitar.
Hope these strike the right chord with you:
Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze
Stevie Ray Vaughan – Texas Flood
Eric Clapton – Layla
Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) – Money For Nothing
Eddie Van Halen – You Really Got Me
George Harrison – While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Your turn!
Categories: Music Thread

Johnny Winter -- Mojo Boogie -
Dickie Betts and Dan Toler and Great Southern Jam -
Prince -- When Doves Cry -
Neil Young and Pearl Jam -
Love George. The Masquerade.
Danny Boy.
I could make a few fantasy super groups, but I’ll just wing it for now with those musicians that come to my mind as excelling on their particular instrument.
Guitar: Robert Fripp
King Crimson -- VROOOM
Drums: Mitch Mitchell
Jimi Hendrix Experience -- Fire
Bass: Geezer Butler
Black Sabbath -- Bassically/N.I.B.
Keys: Ray Manzarek
Doors -- Strange Days
By the way, anyone gonna do Yngwie or Vai?

Robin Trower -- Too Rolling Stoned -
Angus Young -- Guitar Solo -
Pete Townsend -- (Acoustic version) We Won’t Get Fooled Again -
And one of my all time favorites :
Alvin Lee -- The Bluest Blues -
Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan -- I’m Going Down
Slash (Guns N’ Roses) -- Welcome to The Jungle
More John Mayhall, this one is a money maker pop song, but it did have Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton in the group at this time.
Jeff Beck -- Drown In My Own Tears -
Joe Satriani -- Surfing With The Alien -
Frank Zappa -- Muffin Man -
Keith Richards -- Blues Acoustic -
Frank Zappa’s guitar solos live were something to behold. He was great.

OK, folks. One drunken night in Telluride, I proclaimed myself the “President of the Sonny Landreth INTERNATIONAL fan club”.
Here’s a little something with someone else you might recognize -- Eric Clapton who said “Sonny Landreth is probably the most underestimated musician on the planet”. Alpha Bitch says: He is also one of the most humble, nice people on the planet. He also at one time played in a mythical band, the Traiteurs (meaning “healer” in Cajun). They never toured, never did interviews, never allowed photo shoots and never got paid -- always played for benefits. Enjoy, and hopefully you will find a new “star”.
I like it, AB!!!! When you see a Sunburst Fender Strat, your foot starts tapping and your body moving, spontaneously.

*EDIT* Sat in the car until it was over and a neighbor asked if I was “jammin’” — of course I could be his mother, but I said abosolutely!
This may even be better…
Frampton 1975 Do You Feel Like I Do
Gawd I feel old! My oldest was only 2!
And…Frampton in 2008 33 years later
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) -- Wish You Were Here
Django Reinhardt -- Limehouse Blues
If you were alive when Cream was together (boomer
) There were two great guitars. Jack Bruce was great on bass.
That drummer fellow wasn’t too bad either.
