Quwhellyicquid here. Some of you may have met me over at the Huffpo. Apparently some mawd didn’t like my snark so I got canned.
Hell, I had a great fan to comment ratio going too: 700 comments and 103 fans. Ef it anyway. It seemed obvious that the Huffpo had sold out
to the right wing MSM right? Like how stupid is it to put up an article about Dickhead Cheney being in the hospital and not let anyone post even a passive comment about how happy that made them feel.
Seriously, the sooner that war criminal goes to hell the better. However, all of the sappy posts that the mawds let through were “I’m praying for a speedy recovery” or some other bullocks like that.
Like this was the Huffpo, and I thought it was against the insanity of the right wing – and here they are having a little Cheney love fest going on. Purely nauseating.
Anyway, I’ll just my news from the BBC unless someone can suggest a better source. Until then, I’ll just have to deposit my snark here unless otherwise told to do otherwise.
Cheers

I’ve never been banned, but I’ve been flogged for abusiveness more times than I care to count. But I’ve still got the streaks on my back in case anybody else wants to count for me.

Hello all,
It has been good reading about other ppls experience on HP, I was under the impression HP was a lefty thing, but there isn’t a five minute period when there aren’t any right wingers. I had two after me one night and I was unprepared for it. But one day somebody posted about trolls and their behavior…eye opening. Then of course I found this site and the post about trolls…attacking trolls with nonsense. I have now noticed and participated in a couple such attacks.
But to the crux…by forcing ppl into a concerted attack against trolls we have actually fallen victim to their desire to derail discussions, preventing like minded folks from sharing and learning.
Report comment
Yeah, that’s sorta the definition of a troll. It’s why it’s best not to feed them, but sometimes, they can not be ignored and need to be shut down with their tails between their legs.

Hey phread!
The main reason The Planet was founded was to have a place where folks could have meaningful (and often enjoyable) conversations with other thoughtful people about things that really matter to them. Becoming more informed, enlightened and empowered.
Blogging the way it was meant to be, IMO.
The whole secondary blogging experience of battling with trolls is, IMO, an addictive distraction from what really matters that simply isn’t on the menu here.
Some members here still do it at HP and hey, I used to do it back when I was at HP too so I have nothing against anyone who wants to but The Planet is intended to be an island of sanity and reason in the sea of conflict out there that is the blogosphere.
Personally, I got burned out on the manufactured conflict at HP, preferring to spend my time discussing things of substance with friendly, clever, informed people. I think it helps ones’ IQ become higher and one’s blood pressure become lower.
In any case, wherever you land on all of this, welcome to The Planet!

Welcome to the Planet, phread.
Right! Sometimes ignoring the trolls is the best way to keep the discussion on track and tick ‘em off at the same time!

Huh.
Banned?
Huh.
That’s a shame.

Hi Q – welcome to the Planet where human beings thrive.
I’m not kicked off, but I get censored a LOT mostly when I provide historical background or info on something to the opposite of Ms. H’s knee jerk views. I dislike a lot of the analyses that pass for thought, and there are huge discrepancies between her submissions. One berated Obama for the massive failure to prevent foreclosures, but over on the Business pages a couple of days later, an article extolled how successful two of his federal programs were with a 70% “save” rate. So – which IS it? I simply asked that question, and my comment was scrubbed.
I used to love the site. Now I hate the bitch.

I’m with you Q. I had close to 600 fans and was banned for a tirade I went on about their censorship. They won’t let me create another account. They should just change the name to The Bickerington Post.
Actually I could still login, but I’ve been banned from commenting.

Hey Q; I, myself, have been banned from HP no fewer than 6 or 7 times, I’ve kind of lost count. Some former iterations were Masso435,shamus, 1shamus1, johnie2xs, Jasper48,and now KidShaleen. I don’t know that they have sold out so much as they tend towards sterilized commentary.
Report comment
Their threshold for comments is parochial, arbitrary, and subjective. In one case I was being attacked by a troll, defended myself, and was banned for the effort. I’ve also gotten names of moderators or went to i...@huffingtonpost.com and railed to them directly, and in some cases, held back very little in the way of criticism. If you want, just set up another e-mail account and submit again, and start over. I don’t know why I’m addicted to the site the way I am, but then again, I don’t know why I married my ex-wife either. Somethings go beyond explanation.
Soldier on,and welcome.
Hey, johnie2xs, I think this may have been your very first post here. Looks as if HuffNo Fridays are still here,eh?
Yeah, HP can be pretty sick.
There’s a troll there who called illegal aliens no better than a “bunch of animals.”
They didn’t ban him. They turned him into a “pundit.”
Report comment
So, for HP, racism is rewarded with being featured as a pundit?
No wonder Arianna was smiling so big in that photo of her with her arm around Newtie that Marion generously provided.
Report comment
Yeah, I don’t get that. I ignore whatever the pundits say because they are getting glorified for farting in the wind.
“My farts are the farts that travel farthest”.
OK. So I’m ~bitter~

Sorry to hear about this, Quwhellyicquid, though welcome to The Planet.
It really does bewilder, how HP can tout itself as a liberal site yet restrict and censor as aggressively and prodigiously as they do.
As you mentioned, I think there is and has been a right-wing-adjacent undercurrent over there, passing itself off as Progressive dissatisfaction with Obama.
Marion has recently written a trio of articles which IMO hit the bulls eye on this, the founding of HP was by a Andrew Breitbart and a then recently converted from rabid Republican, Arianna. What fruits would grow from those seeds seems to be self-evident.
Add to that, the ownership by HP by hedge funds which have a fiduciary responsibility to run their businesses to generate the most profit and you have this marriage of opportunism and corporate profits necessarily overriding principle and freedom of expression.
That doesn’t make HP bad or evil, it just means that the image they market is at odds with the values they exhibit.
In any case, once again, welcome to The Planet, Quwhellyicquid!

Let me add another welcome, Quwhellyicquid. (b’ito’s right, though. We gotta lop a couple syllables offa that one.
)
Sadly, HuffPo doesn’t always, or even often, seem to be about opposing the insanity of the right, as much as about lining the wallet of Miss Arriana herself. So she and the mods do whatever works to keep controversy a-boilin’ and clicks a-clickin’ and ads a-sellin’. She is nothing if not a businesswoman.
The Planet is a lot more interested in actual ideas. It may even take a wee bit of getting used to, after the soap opera, overheated environment of HP. But — wow — is it worth it. I hope you get to know and enjoy the amazing group of people here. And you’ll get a little relief from your stiff neck…the one you got from always having to watch your own back over there.

A Planet welcome, but first your name will be shortened to??? Quid?

I have always liked that one watching BBC shows. How much is a quid, a bob, a shilling?
I do hope you find your self comfortable here and appreciate and respect the intelligence that many have here,(please excuse my lapses).
welcome
bito
Bito a quid is slang for 1 pound. A “bob” is slang for a Shilling and there used to be 20 shillings to the pound.

Really, it’s no big loss. All of the comments at Huffington Post are so canned at this point it’s ridiculous. The only original posts are…wait for it…from people who frequent blogs like PlanetPov.
KQuark and Chernynkaya come to mind.
What happened to Chernynkaya anyway? I don’t see many comments be her(?) anymore.

Either of them. Worries me.

Welcome to the Planet Quwhellyicquid, hope that you will find what you are looking for here.
We don’t have a fanning system here, not even a reliable A/C, but we do have members with open hearts, open minds and stimulating conversation.
You will find many news links on our Time Out for O/T posts and international stories and links on Morning Blog.
Again welcome and don’t allow the madness at HP to bring you down, they cater to RW trolls and GOP ideals and have for as long as I can remember. The mask has been slipping for years.
