OK I admit I got caught with my pants down this week and forgot it was already Friday but that’s because it was a very good week worthy of celebrating.

CELEBRATION!  Sorry for the opening ad what a buzz kill.

We are the Champions!

Get the Party Started!

I’m So Excited!

What’s a dance party celebration without the dancing kitty.

“Ode to Joy” from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. My mother’s favourite.

Ah, Kalima…possibly the greatest piece of music ever written.

“Up above the stars, a loving Father dwells…”

Ein umschlungen der ganzen Welt.

Funnily enough, the words never grow old. We humans still have the basic communication problems as they had then. It was played in our house almost every week when I was still knee high. 🙂

Oops…I misremembered: Ein umschlungen millionen, diese kuss der ganzen welt. Is that it?

Kalima

Yes kesmarn, that’s it. The lead singer’s voice was in heavily accented German, “diesen Kuss” for some reason the Kuss is masculine in our language der, die and das.

“Seid umschlungen, Millionen!
Diesen Ku

This one is hard to take if you know the song.
Sad part of history past. Is this what some want to bring back?

I remember when it was first explained to me exactly what that phrase meant, b’ito. Chilling.

Isn’t it amazing what music can do to help humans process all the facets of life? Beautiful and ugly…

Her record label refused to record that.

I’m not surprised, b’ito. Everyone wanted to sweep all that under the rug.

That was from the movie “Selena,” Sue?

My daughter loved that movie. Got a kick out of her trying to explain “bustiers” to her conservative dad…and the younger guys who were so dazzled by having helped repair the broken-down “bus of Sah-lee-naz.”

I loved that movie too

“Salinas” that is what they guys called her

In the heat of August, at one of the neighborhood street festivals in northern Ohio, Duane Malinowski sets up at one end of Lagrange Street and the Mexican tejano bands set up at the other. They sound almost identical. Gotta love the melting pot!

I will have to play that for my husband, he loaths Mariachi Bands and his father wants them at all family celebrations LOL….

kesmarn

I’m crazy about Mariachi bands. The younger children of my Hispanic friends can hardly tolerate them, though! 😆

Needless to say, Duane Malinowski is as Polish as it’s possible to be, but he could fill in on accordion in any of the local Tejano bands on no notice!

I love almost everything about Mexico. Mariachi is number one on the list of things I cannot abide.

Not even those glorious gigantic hats, e’cat? 😆

LOVE Tejano and ranchero music, Kes.

I do too, Cher, and I’m always amazed at the local festivals at the similarities between the polka bands and the Mexican bands… Now I’ll have to find some Tejano stuff to match Duane!
