When AdLib said he was going out of town I said I would cover the music night thread again since taking a break. So I thought this theme was apropos. I have fun doing the music thread but I just got tired of hearing what I wanted to hear and see what other members taste in music was. I love covers because they are different, not necessarily better than the original and most times not, but just different. The bigger the difference the interpretation from the original song the better.

In My Life – Dave Mathews – Beatles Cover (I could probably do a whole post on Beatles’ covers alone but I stopped at two)

Strawberry Fields Forever – Candy Flip – Beatles Cover

Another Brick in the Wall – KoRn – Pink Floyd Cover

Smells Like Teen Spirit (Remix) – Tori Amos – Nirvana Cover

Message in a Bottle – Sting – The Police (Sting covers his own song)

OK I am breaking the rules here but did anyone hear about this call by Gelnn Beck to leave your church if they preach economic or social justice? Of course he says those are communist code phrases.

      Sue,

      Evening from the Midwest Sue.

No I didn’t. I’ve been sipping Merlot and listening to music and commenting at the Planet.

I’ve given up watching/listening to anything but PBS or NPR. I trust these organizations because they depend on support from the public, not from shareholders or lobbyists.

Glenn Beck is a joke, an act, should be given meds, and Faux News should be ashamed for giving this man a voice on the air waves. On the other hand, Faux News shouldn’t be on the air in the first place.

MSM spends far too much time focusing on the irrational humans in this country and far less on regular people like you, me and all the rest of us here at PPOV.

Yahoos like Beck are money makers for the MSM, tabloid headlines and unfortunately — we are not.

Sue,I was surprised to see it was actually covered pretty extensively on the ABC Evening News tonight!
I was also relieved to see that they let Beck appear to be exactly the idiot he really is. They interviewed a Catholic priest and asked him if he felt Beck was making an attack on his faith. He answered: “No, not so much an attack on my faith as an indication of a person who doesn’t really know what he’s talking about.”

Ok then, have stuff to do. Have a great night.

I won’t be around on MB to greet you in the morning, sorry.

If your comments fail to show up, holler for Cher, she knows how to get them out of spam “prison.” Thanks Cher!”

Don’t have a favourite cover version but will leave you with this, I doubt that there are many furry friends who can compete with Nora. Check out her sequels too, she the cat’s whiskers. :)

Ugggh, I’ve got tons of covers… I’m just blanking on some really good ones, like ironic and completely cross genre -- you know that feeling?

That was a very entertaining musical. I really like Abba and I thought he movie was really well done. My husband doesn’t like musicals that much but he watched this one and enjoyed it as well.

I have the DVD and have watched it a zillion times — have you watched the Director’s extra comments?

Julie Walters sprained her ankle and couldn’t do the number, so they had a stand in. She is the one with the silly crepe skirt over her head.

Plus, the majority of the women were locals and wee up every day at 4:00 am to rehearse the number and wee taught the words to the song phonetically. The smaller group of supporting actors were from the original London production.
