Just a few bite-size stories to nibble on today:

Top home-school texts dismiss Darwin, evolution

By DYLAN LOVAN
Associated Press Writer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Two of the best-selling biology textbooks stack the deck against evolution, said some science educators who reviewed sections of the books at the request of The Associated Press.

“I feel fairly strongly about this. These books are promulgating lies to kids,” said Jerry Coyne, an ecology and evolution professor at the University of Chicago.

The textbook publishers defend their books as well-rounded lessons on evolution and its shortcomings. One of the books doesn’t attempt to mask disdain for Darwin and evolutionary science.

The textbook delivers a religious ultimatum to young readers and parents, warning in its “History of Life” chapter that a “Christian worldview … is the only correct view of reality; anyone who rejects it will not only fail to reach heaven but also fail to see the world as it truly is.”

Kansas City wants to close half its public schools

By HEATHER HOLLINGSWORTH, Associated Press Writer Heather Hollingsworth, Associated Press Writer – 45 mins ago

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City was held up as a national example of bold thinking when it tried to integrate its schools by making them better than the suburban districts where many kids were moving. The result was one school with an Olympic-sized swimming pool and another with recording studios.

Now it’s on the brink of bankruptcy and considering another bold move: closing nearly half its schools to stay afloat.

The story about the S.Korean couple was big news here. One reason is because every year, Japanese leave their babies and small children locked in their cars at the peak of summer temperatures here, while they sit in air-conditioned “Pachinko” game shops for hours. Many of the babies and small children die in temperatures that reach boiling point. I’m sure that even with all the yearly warnings, this same tragedy will happen over and over again here this summer.

The Korean couple story is hard to believe, Kalima. Really hard to swallow.

There are stories here almost every day that would make you weep.

The Japanese are basically quite dumb and uneducated about birth control so there are many “Shotgun” weddings here. After a while having a small child becomes a burden, the kids are still kids themselves and have no idea how to raise a child, hence the recklessness, selfishness and neglect as they do what they want to do.

Some people just shouldn’t have children, the stories on the news here are heartbreaking, you wouldn’t even think of treating an animal this way if you were normal.

Yesterday, the House approved the Keeping All Students Safe Act, a bipartisan bill providing comprehensive protection for children against abusive disciplinary actions at schools, such as restraints, drugging, or being isolated in a locked room.

Ken Calvert voted against this bipartisan bill. Ken Calvert voted for the continued use of abusive discipline in the classroom.
I believe that every child deserves to be treated with dignity. Schools need to use the many research-based, humane behavior techniques available.
The prohibited practices read shockingly like a page from the Inquisition. I don’t know what is worse: that the need to end such abusive practices requires federal action, or the fact that 153 members of Congress
