Vox Populi – Bring on the Latin, that will really confound them.
Good Night all…..
I know it’s shallow to be happy when the US economy loses ONLY 11,000 jobs in November but I have to admit I was surprised by that news today. Maybe the economy can actually gain some jobs next month. This is going to be a long tough recovery but I look for every positive sign I can find and this is probably the most positive.
I’m glad they are finally listing the underemployed number now to bring some reality to the situation we have not seen for a while. I guess the official unemployment rate is down to 10% and the underemployed rate is down to 17.2%.
Alas I’ll probably just watch the WC final but I did play real football a couple of years in high school. I was the sweeper and my claim to fame was my one goal from 50 yards out.
Well, you guys didn’t miss out on much, I just happened to catch it. Charlize Theron was drawing the balls lottery style and letting out more of her Afrikaaner accent than usual in announcing.
We’re in Group C with England, Algeria and Slovenia. A good draw, I suppose. England’s not the powerhouse it once was. Italy had better though – they’re already in round two for all intents and purposes.
I get fanatical about the WC. In addition to sport, there’s a lot of geopolitics and it is absolutely fascinating to me the way their respective team’s play styles reflect their cultural attributes.
That means the US shoots down opposing players with Predator drone aircraft and leaves it’s injured players on the field without healthcare I guess. Sorry I could not help my self.
We have problem with follow through and passionate struggle in our game. And, we generally rely on the European and South American powerhouses to soften other teams up before we play them.
I’m not kidding, soccer is poetry. Take this from someone who was more interested in music and books and who hated all sports for the longest time.
What a dillweed this guy is. First Conrad Burns and now this guy embarrassing Montana.
Yeah, he withdrew her name from consideration to save his bacon…

How’s your RA in the damp weather? Bothers my sister, her knee’s swell terribly.
We are supposed to have snow here this weekend, not much, only 2-3″. Can’t wait for the ground to freeze up, it a mud pit in my gardens for the boys to romp through.
Not as bad as they said it would be, just blew all night, not much rain.
My sister has her knees drained every once and awhile, very painful for her, but then seems to recover after a day or so.
I see the pain etched in her face these past few years, I know it must be awfully painful…so I feel you, because I see what it has done to my sister and my late Father.
Yes. The truck is arriving in Denver in the afternoon. I just got her crate and bedding ready. She’ll be a mess I imagine, having been in a truck for many hours, plus having spent her whole life in a crate she will be completely bewildered…and then she will start to realize how wonderful and interesting the world is! I’ve been told she’s a “sweet three year old black and white cat safe female named Country Girl.” I’m already in love!
I especially like hearing the ways people view elitists. I think it’s a word people run away from lately because the right has demonized it but it really depends on how you define elite whether it’s a positive or negative connotation.
For example I hope if we do send troops to go after Bin Laden they are elite squads and not mediocre troops.
There are several meanings that people apply to elitism…educational, which the GOP have demonized; social, which would be the American Aristocracy, the top 1 or 2% wealthy of our Nation; or as you have used it, an “elite squad”, meaning someone or group that really knows what they are doing.
Like nellie says, it is how it is used in context to the subject matter.
But again it’s Republicans trying to conflate all meanings even elite to have a negative connotation. Worse they expended the definition of elitist to cover groups that are not necessarily bad. To teabaggers intellectual elites or intellectual elitists mean the same thing.
When I looked it up in Merriam Webster during the chat, it said “Elitist” was created in 1947 and the original definition appears to be intended as derogatory.
What is everyone’s feelings on what Beck is up to, do you think he’s making a play, like Dobbs for some political office?
This man scares the hell out of me, more than Palin does. He know how to manipulate the masses the same way Hilter did. He plays to peoples fears and emotions.
If anyone in the media even asked them a question regarding policy or experience, both would claim that the ‘elitist’ leftist media was picking on them…
But then again, the media is making a lot of money reporting on these two, so they may tread lightly.
Beck is making too much money as a goofball, he may have aspirations but aside from running in a heavy Republican state, which have loonies as elected officials anyway, he has no options.
He’s like Arianna, just trying to amass power and wealth so they can be more “important” and bigger celebrities. He is not some Machiavellian genius, he’s a panderer to the lowest common denominator carnival performer.
Beck seems more likely to go off the deep end in a dramatic way than Palin, to me. But then, Hitler went off the deep end, too. Unfortunately he was in a position of enormous power when he did it.
There’s such a “big kettle of crazy” (to quote Dilbert) in the country right now, it’s hard to tell what’s going to float to the top when it gets stirred.

Agreed, that was very interesting, and I say that as an elite elitist.
As a word maven, I would point out that there is a difference between “elitists” and “elite”.
“Elitists” was created and has been maintained as a negative reference whereas “Elite” was not and is used often as complimentary of something.

But again it’s Republicans trying to conflate all meanings even elite to have a negative connotation. Worse they expended the definition of elitist to cover groups that are not necessarily bad. To teabaggers intellectual elites or intellectual elitists mean the same thing.
