welcome to planetOnce again, everyone is invited to join us here at The Planet tomorrow night for music, merriment and margaritas. Well, virtual margaritas but we’re using the finest virtual tequila virtually available.

Due to the holidays, Debate Night Live and The Weekly Planet have been on hiatus but tomorrow night, in addition to our Friday Night Music thread and due to popular demand, we will host a live open chat on the week’s events for all members to participate in called, Planet Talk. It will begin at 7:00 pm PST (10 pm EST, 4 am Saturday in Germany, 12 noon Saturday in Japan) and last for approximately one hour.

Also, thanks to Mogamboguru’s suggestion so you won’t miss it,  please note the nifty new countdown timer in the right column for the start of Planet Talk.

You can find the link to Planet Talk under Live Events at the top of the page, for your convenience, here is the direct link: http://planetpov.com/live-events/planet-talk/.

You may have noticed that we have renamed our Friday night event from HuffNo Friday to Friday Night at The Planet. No, we haven’t been bought off with Arianna Bucks (only redeemable for Pres. Obama dart boards), we just think it’s accomplished its goal of establishing awareness that The Planet is the Friday night alternative to HuffPo (we even had trolls at HuffPo whining about the phrase last week after we had stopped using “HuffNo”!).

However, we still encourage our visitors and members to continue the Friday boycott of HuffPo, making a statement to them by denying their site your attention, visits and clicks beginning at 9:00 pm PST tonight and ending at midnight Friday Night. However, as mentioned below, if you go there to invite others to join us, that would absolutely be very appreciated.

Seeing that HuffPo has now hobbled the member-created Friday Music Night over there by disabling all links to YouTube, it seems like a good opportunity for us to actively invite more friends and colleagues there to join us here on Friday night, where sharing music videos is not only allowed, members can quickly and easily embed videos in their comments.

Since HuffPo added our URL to their word filter (we’re in good company with “Ted Kennedy” and many other respected names), we now have a new link for you to share with your friends and colleagues in your posts at HuffPo that will bring them directly here to our home page:

http://welcome.to/planetpov.com

Please let us know if this URL ever appears to also have been added to the word filter and is thus sending your comments there into pending, we can change this link an infinite number of times so HuffPo can stuff that in their moderation queue and sit on it.

Once again, we appreciate your getting the word out to friends, family and colleagues everywhere including HuffPo, about Friday Night at The Planet…the more, the merrier! Hope to see you here tomorrow night, should be a lot of fun!

The Rice-a-Roni kid would like to attend tomorrow night’s live open chat.

Love the countdown clock and glad you renamed Friday so it didn’t include an hp identification.

BTW, one of my socks, socialbutterfly was killed on hp after going in the night that PeaceKitten came here. I assume it was due to the profusely posted older url version of the planet, before which I said “If you want to see PeaceKitten, come over to:”

Socialbutterfly served me well and was made for just that type of endeavor, to relay the thread, and get the hell out. I’ve already replaced her and that one could follow her into hell, no matter.

See you tomorrow Adlib.

Hey Mo I was thinking about making the music thread about music in films. How the movie industry has gone from full musicals to music setting the tone of the movie from music in the period of the film to songs specifically made to feature in movies. Everyone has at least one favorite song that’s been played in a movie.

Very good idea. I second that!

May I make a couple suggestions?

Does the theme from ‘Jaws’ count as movie music?

One of my favorite pieces is an instrumental from ‘Dances With Wolves’ that’s frequently played on PBS when they show the monuments, national parks, etc and say this belongs to you.

The Jaws score is a classic!

AdLib – thanks 1000 times for incorporating that countdown-clock in the page! But wait: Now I will never again be able to claim I just missed something of importance on The Planet… YIKES! 🙂

The picture in this thread is MARVELLOUS! I am a rabid fan of B-movie science-fiction. And concerning me, you caught the spirit of all the flying saucer-movies of the late 40’s and 50’s PERFECTLY! (Regarding “flying saucers” – HAHAHAHAHAHA! 😉 )

The only down-point is, that the Planet Talk will begin a 4 AM my time… But I shall see to being still awake and with you then, I swear!

The infinitely changeable link is genius, Ad’Lib.

M’o–so good to meet another B-movie sci-fi addict. Do you prefer Japanese, American or Other or All of the Above?

I love the black and whites–almost all the Godzillas, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Day the Earth Stood Still and so many others. But then I also love the 1930s Frankensteins, Draculas and anything mad scientistish.

The more garish the poster for the movie, the better.

😎

i take them as they come, kesmarn. But the american black and white movies and series from the 30’s to 50’s are my favorites.

Early Godzillas are great, too. But the latter ones are childish. Yet, I like the “modern” Godzilla with Matthew Broderick, again. (Wasn’t it directed by a german director…? 😉 )

Do you have the TVU-internet TV-player on your computer already? http://www.tvunetworks.com/

It’s a little messy, to collect your favorites among all the Bollywood-stuff there, but it’s worth every minute – because this playwer features:

1: A classic-SF channel, featuring Spectreman and 1930’s Buck Rogers- and Flash Gordon-series among LOTS of unkown, yet sometimes remarkable other classic SF-films from Countries as weird as the late German Democratic Republic (Dubbed) !

2. a classic-HORROR-channel: Watch Boris Karlov and Bela Lugosi as they come!

3. And – tataaaa: THE SCIFI-CHANNEL! Yes, that one! The real McCoy!

Also, there are action-channels, Chinese and Japanese Hollywood-channels, A silent-movie-channel (A classic in itself!) and lots of special interest channels.

Again: There’s also a lot of garbage-channels on this player. But once you have sorted things out and have linked your favourite channels to your “Favourite”-bar, the TVU-player becomes a real alternative on a bad TV-night!

Enjoy!

Wow. Thanks for the tip! I’m going to go there and explore right now. Sounds like sci-fi heaven.

(Oops. Just noticed I have to check in with the old employer to see if it’s on-call tonight or come in and slave away. But right after that, I’m going to check this out.)

Wonder if they even have those Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episodes…?

Thanks again.

Muchas gracias, Senor Guru.

(I did have to go to work…%&$&@#&$!…but I’m back home and if I can stay awake, I’m heading off to TVU!)

Like the clock, now let’s hope I stay awake to join all of you this week, will be taking a nap tomorrow afternoon to ensure that I am bright eyed and bushy tailed for the debate.

Thanks for the new link, I have been inviting people over to the planet whenever it seems appropriate at HP. Not posting or going over there as much, prefer a different planet.

One poster at HP actually asked for another place to go for political discussion, offered the planet and was then asked by others if there were trolls. Told poster(s) that there were, but not the “trolls” like at HP, legit posters with just differences of opinions and great for debating the issues.

Look forward to tomorrow night, and thanx for the niffty clock, should help me figure out when it’s time to land on this planet!
